Trivia / Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Go To

  • Foiler Footage:
    • The first gameplay demo at the PS5 Showcase featured the sequence at the Braithwaite Bridge, albeit with Miles wearing the Classic costume to avoid spoiling that he doesn’t create the suit until after the event. More notably, is that the cutscene featuring Miles accidentally exploding the Nuform with his bio-electricity is edited to remove Miles unmasking the Tinkerer as Phin.
    • A lot of the gameplay previews showing the game's opening Rhino sequence featured Miles in his classic costume also.
  • Follow the Leader: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has a strong presence in the game, with Miles' costume from the movie, as well as strong hip-hop and black/Hispanic culture appearing in the game.
  • God Never Said That: Insomniac Games had to clarify that the game was a standalone project after Sony said it was an expansion. Multiple times.
  • In Memoriam:
    • There's a statue of Stan Lee outside of Mick's Diner (the place where his character worked in the previous game). Miles calls him a "real-life hero" when interacting with the statue's inscription, while the trophy description for doing so refers to him as a legend.
Inscription: Dedicated with love to the man who nourished the hearts, minds, and souls of True Believers everywhere. Excelsior!
    • The credits end with a message in memory of Chadwick Boseman. Additionally, 42nd Street, between 1st and 3rd Avenue, becomes "Boseman Way", as Chadwick Boseman became famous for his role in 42.
  • Killer App: Was announced as a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and heavily promoted as one of the two principal killer apps for the system alongside Demon's Souls Remake. While also releasing on PS4, that version gained little promotion with the game regularly featuring in weekly sales charts whenever stock for the PS5 refills, leading to well over 6.5 million copies sold in less than a year, with the vast majority leaning on the next-gen version.
  • Lying Creator: Shortly after the announcement of the game, Insomniac clarified that this wasn’t a direct sequel to the 2018 game and wouldn’t move any of the lingering plot threads from that game forward. Whilst the focus of the game is very much on Miles earning the Spider-Man mantle and Peter is largely absent from the plot, the game further delves into Kingpin managing his criminal empire from behind bars and The Stinger ends the game on Norman Osborn ordering that Dr Connors begin preparations to release Harry from the tank he’s currently held within.
  • Out of Holiday Episode: The game is released a month before Christmas despite being set during and a while after Christmas Eve.
  • Pre-Order Bonus: The T.R.A.C.K. and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse suits are unlocked instantly by preordering the game.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Evan Narcisse, comic writer and journalist, has been a vocal fan and supporter of Miles Morales' character for years. He will be serving as one of the writers of the story.
  • Reality Subtext: Rio Morales’s speech about opposing corporations while supporting small businesses has a greater impact in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, which saw the government-forced closures of many small businesses across America while stores owned by large corporations such as Walmart were allowed to remain open.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: People have already been noting the replacement of the Chrysler Building, which was in the first game, most likely being done because Insomniac couldn't get the rights to use it again due to something with the new owners, who took over ownership of the building after it was cleared for use in the first game.
