- Dawson Casting: Segel and Diaz play the college age version of themselves with what looks like cgi smoothened faces. To an extent this counts even for their 'present day roles' - judging by the fact she fell pregnant in college and the age of her son Annie should be about thirty while Diaz is a full decade older.
- Star-Derailing Role: Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel both saw their careers sink after this film performed poorly, combined with The Other Woman and Annie (2014) in Diaz's case. Diaz announced her temporary retirement from acting when those three films were negatively received in the same year, only returning eight years later in 2022 to star in an action-comedy for Netflix. Segel reclaimed a degree of critical esteem with an acclaimed serious turn as David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour, although he hasn't starred in a Hollywood studio film since Sex Tape. Fortunately for Segel, his television career, through which he got his Star-Making Role via How I Met Your Mother, continued with Dispatches From Elsewhere (a series which he starred and created) and Winning Time.
