• Ability over Appearance: The real Don Malarkey was blond in his youth. Scott got the part, despite being red haired, because his audition was just that good.

• Dawson Casting: Will in Party of Five is meant to be sixteen in Season 1. Scott was twenty-four. By contrast he actually was sixteen for his recurring role on Who's the Boss?.
• Dyeing for Your Art:
  • Endured a ten day gruelling boot camp for Band of Brothers.
  • Also grew a really long beard for Robin Hood and had to keep it in that condition for eight months.
• Fake Brit: As Will Scarlett in Robin Hood, and the accent is pretty decent.

• He Also Did: He's a singer-songwriter as well and had a number one hit in the 90s with "Sunset Boulevard".
• Production Posse: He's best friends with Russell Crowe and they starred together in Robin Hood (2010) and Mystery, Alaska. He was also reunited with his Band of Brothers co-stars Eion Bailey for ER, and Rick Gomez for Justified.
• Reality Subtext: Malarkey getting let off the eponymous "The Last Patrol" in Band of Brothers parallels real life. He'd been down to go in the script but the real Malarkey said he wasn't on it - so Scott got himself taken out of the scene.
• Typecasting: As the Plucky Comic Relief, because that's who he is in real life.
