Trivia / Jeepers Creepers

Go To

  • The two main characters were purposely written as siblings in order to remove expectations of sexual tension or nudity in the film.
  • Acting for Two: A minor example. Jonathan Breck, who plays the Creeper, also appears as the bald cop towards the end of the film.
  • Completely Different Title: The term (and subsequent rhyme) "Jeepers Creepers" is generally only used in the Anglosphere, so a lot of foreign markets had to make do. Some went for The Foreign Subtitle (as noted below), but several other markets translated the title to something else entirely.
    • Belgium and French Canada: Morts de peur ("Dead of fear").
    • Brazil: "Olhos Famintos" ("Hungry Eyes"). This one led to The Creeper himself being popularly known as Hungry Eyes in Brazil.
    • Hungary: "Aki bújt, aki nem" ("Who hid, who doesn't"). The name of a equivalent nursery rhyme.
    • Mexico, Peru, Venezuela: "El Demonio" ("The Demon").
    • Poland: Smakosz ("Gourmet").
    • Romania: "Tenebre" ("Darkness").
    • Serbia: "Strašno strašilo" ("Scary Scarecrow").
  • Dawson Casting: Despite being portrayed as a college student, Gina Philips was actually 30 years old at the time of filming.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Jonathan Breck shaved his head for the role, inspired by the notion that the Creeper was naturally hairless and would have to "borrow" hair from victims.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Justin Long and Gina Phillips didn't see the Creeper truck for the first time until they were on-set. In addition, Jonathan Breck made sure he didn't meet either of them until they were all on-set together.
  • The Foreign Subtitle: The markets unfamiliar with the titular rhyme that did not go the route of translating it to something entirely different merely added subtitles. Some examples:
    • Argentina: Jeepers Creepers - El Terror existe ("The Terror Exists").
    • France: Jeepers Creepers - Le chant du diable ("The Devil's Song"). Italy used the same title ("Il canto del diavolo").
    • Germany: Jeepers Creepers - Es ist angerichtet ("Dinner Is Served").
  • Reality Subtext: Victor Salva, the director, was previously arrested for raping a 12 year old, who he had been grooming since the age of 7. The first film in particular makes for a much different watch with this knowledge.
  • The Other Darrin: Minor example, the Creeper in the last scene of the movie is actually Justin Long, not Jonathan Breck.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Victor Salva originally wrote the role of the Creeper for Lance Henriksen.
    • Debbi Morgan and Tina Turner were considered for Jezelle Gay Hartman.
    • Gina Philips was asked to cameo in the second movie.
    • There were talks for a prequel showing the Creeper hunting in the Wild West era, but this never came to pass.
  • Working Title: Here Comes the Boogeyman, named after the song by Henry Hall.
