Direct to Video: Initially written to be a theatrical release, it was changed in pre-production to be Disney's first live-action direct-to-video release following the success of animated features like Aladdin: The Return of Jafar. This resulted in the budget being slashed from $40 million to $7 million.
Follow the Leader: Disney's decision to release the film Direct to Video was inspired by the success of its animated DTV features.
The Other Darrin: Marcia Strassman is replaced in the role of Diane Szalinski by Eve Gordon, making Rick Moranis the only actor to appear in all three Honey films. (It would be his last live-action role until he returned for the sequel, Shrunk, 25 years later.) The role of Adam is also recast.
Underage Casting: Eve Gordon is 12 years younger than Marcia Strassman, and just 11 years older than Amy O'Neill, who played her character's daughter in the first two films. Luckily for her, both Amy and Nick are absent, allowing her to be presented as "merely" the mother to a preteen son.
The Shelf of Movie Languishment: Was released straight to video in 1997, but the end credits show that it was completed in 1996.
