Trivia / Gundam Battle Assault 2

Go To

  • Bad Export for You:
    • Battle Assault 1 was reformulated from The Battle Master 2, so while the gameplay was untouched (saved for Hamma-Hamma's removal), the story itself was heavily changed and neutered in order to try and fit the anime's mythos into an alternate continuity. Gone were the original cast members, and instead was a story mode that heavily fell into Excuse Plot territory, numerous cutscenes were removed including the intro, and multiple songs were gone as a result of the altered story.
    • Ironically, the Japanese version of Battle Assault 2 was hit with this as right out the gate, it suffered from One Game for the Price of Two, as the G and Wing characters were sanctioned off into their own individual discs. All character voice clips and FMVs were removed as well, making fights a bit more tamer compared to its western original. The only thing going for it was the reinstation of Maria Nichols from The Battle Master as the pilot for the Psycho Gundam Mk-III.
  • Cut Song: Eight songs were removed from Battle Assault 1 from the original The Battle Master 2, those being:
  • Dummied Out:
    • Some unused sound files are "Shooting mode" and "Training mode" spoken by the female announcer in Battle Assault 2.
    • Zeta Gundam, Qubeley and The-O, all playable in Battle Assault and The Battle Master 2, were dummied out of Battle Assault 2, allegedly due to plans for that anime's English release. Hamma-Hamma remains dummied out of all western versions of Battle Assault 1 and 2, due to the developers bringing in the Wing Gundam to bank on Gundam Wing's western popularity. They all play just fine if hacked in. While Somehow Scirocco's portrait data remains in the game and activates if The-O is selected, the other three either use Domon or a miscolored Akahana.
  • Franchise Killer: Battle Assault 3 was nowhere near as successful as the previous games, and the entire The Battle Master series was put on ice because of it.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": To a lot of western fans, this was everyone's first introduction to Valder Farkill and his Hydra Gundam, as Mobile Suit Gundam: The Last Outpost wouldn't get localized until 2003.
  • No Dub for You: Battle Assault 2 has a full English dub for its fighters, even going as far as to cast new people for characters that hadn't been localized yet as of that game's release or, in the case of Valder Farkill, never had a proper appearance outside of the manga. The Japanese versions of The Battle doesn't even attempt to bringing back the original anime voice actors despite their veteran status, with the developers opting instead to create new announcer voice lines to fill in some of the gaps.
  • No Export for You:
    • The original The Battle Master series Battle Assault was based on never left Japan.
    • Neither did the Gundam SEED Destiny sequel to Gundam SEED Battle Assault.
    • Inversely, Battle Assault 3 was made specifically for the western audience to try and further improve SEED's outreach, and thus never saw a Japanese release.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Mark Hildreth didn't reprise his role as Heero Yuy. Brian Drummond took over his lines.
    • No one from the SEED anime return to voice their respective characters in Battle Assault 3, and the one's who kept their voice actors were, ironically, the non-SEED characters (save for Heero).
  • Recursive Import:
    • A strange example, as the first Battle Assault was a Sequel First import of The Battle Master 2, Remade for the Export to include the anime characters due to the runaway success of Gundam Wing in the west. The success of that game resulted in the creation of Battle Assault 2, made specifically for the US and European markets. When it was time to release the game in Japan, the developers opted to splice it into two as Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz: The Battle and G Gundam: The Battle in order to fit it with a line of budget games published by D3 Publisher.
    • Gundam SEED Destiny is a Japanese-exclusive sequel to Gundam SEED: Battle Assault, yet it includes the original Western game as an unlockable on the same cartridge.
  • Role Reprise: Most of the English cast reprises their roles for the characters of Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
  • Sequel First: Western fans never got the original The Battle Master in any capacity, as Battle Assault was built from The Battle Master 2
