• Corpsing: The sight of Patrick Troughton being swept off his feet by a wave of foam is too much for Wendy Padbury. She apologises profusely for it in the DVD commentary.
• Fake Brit: Gia Kelly, who works at T-Mat Earth Control in London and speaks with a British accent, is played by New Zealand actress Louise Pajo.
• Throw It In!: Zoe pulls open a door and the Doctor comes bursting in on a wave of "toxic fungus" (represented by soap foam). He makes as if to dash off and then promptly slips on the soapy floor and falls over onto his face. This was not supposed to happen and, while Patrick Troughton doesn't break character in the least, Wendy Padbury can be seen Corpsing her face off for the rest of the shot.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Terrance Dicks removed a subplot where Kelly was being mind-controlled by the aliens.
  • Had Frazer Hines left in the previous story, Hayles had a replacement in mind with a new companion named Nik.
• Working Title: The Lords of the Red Planet. The title would be reused for the planned third Ice Warriors story which was never produced. (An adaptation was eventually made in 2013 by Big Finish.)
• You Look Familiar: Sonny Caldinez, who played one of Slaar's troops in the later episodes, previously played Kemel, as well as another Ice Warrior in their debut story.
