Trivia / Bananas in Pyjamas

  • Adored by the Network: Nick Jr.'s UK branch ran this show up until 2009. The ABC, their home channel, also screened the pre-2011, pre-CG series twice a day for just about 20 years.
  • Cash-Cow Franchise: Even in its CGI incarnation, the show's merchandising pulls in the big bucks.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Many episodes (mostly from the first season) were formerly a case of this, until they were uploaded to YouTube by fans in surprisingly good quality.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": The CGI version aired in some countries that didn't get the original series such as Poland.
  • Non-Actor Vehicle: Karina Kelly, who narrated the original series from 1992 to 2001, was not an actress. She was actually a journalist who was the host of the ABC's resident science magazine show, Quantum (later Catalyst), at the time the series was in production.
  • The Other Darrin: After Season 1, Ken Radley replaced Duncan Wass as B1 and Mary-Ann Henshaw replaced Sandie Lillingston as Amy.
  • Out of Order: "Cuddles Avenue" was clearly intended to be the series pilot due to the fact it introduces all the characters, but it was transmitted as the show's 34th episode.
  • Playing Against Type: In the Swedish dub, B1 is voiced by the late Gunnar Ernblad who is an actor mostly known for voicing hammy villains. So this is quite the departure.
  • Referenced by...:
    • Arthur: In "Attack of the Turbo Tibbles", the Tibble Twins look for something to watch on the Read family's television after their VCR stops working. One of the shows they see is Pumpkins in Pants, which they claim is for babies.
    • Robot Chicken: A sketch from "Cake Pillow" has B1 and B2 visit the hospital for a Biopsy. When the results come back, B1 tests negative for Melonama (Melanoma for Bananas), while B2 tests positive for Stage 4 Bananal Cancer (Stage 4 Anal Cancer for Bananas).
  • Repeating Ad: An ad for a Rat In The Hat toy kept playing on USA Network back in the 90's during shows such as Sailor Moon.
  • Screwed by the Network: In the late 1990s, when FOX and UPN affiliates got a syndicated preschool block that consisted of this show, The All-New Captain Kangaroo, and the first North American airings of The Wiggles, they often chose to only air these early in the morning.
    • Malaysia, which did get the original show, did not get the CGI retool. MetroVision had ceased to exist in 2003, and the show went to Playhouse Disney, which dropped alongside Clifford and many other shows with the restructuring to focus on internally-produced shows shortly before the rebrand to Disney Junior. ABC Australia is also available in the country, but they don’t appear to be airing the CGI reboot.
