- Dawson Casting: Even though they play two of the "old men" lexicographers, Leonid Kinskey (Prof. Quintana) and Richard Haydn (Prof. Oddly) were both under 40 years old when they made this movie and, therefore, younger than Gary Cooper.
- On-Set Injury: Barbara Stanwyck accidentally hit Kathleen Howard for real, fracturing her jaw. Stanwyck was mortified by the incident.
- Non-Singing Voice: Martha Tilton provided Barbara Stanwyck's singing voice for the song "Drum Boogie".
- What Could Have Been:
- Ginger Rogers was approached to portray Sugarpuss, but she turned the offer down, claiming that the character was too "common" for her. Carole Lombard was offered the role, but turned it down because she didn't like the script. Jean Arthur was also considered, but Columbia refused to loan her out. Lucille Ball wanted the role and was hired until Barbara Stanwyck accepted the role.
- Phil Silvers was announced for a role, but he did not appear in the final film.
- Working Title: The Professor and the Burlesque Queen, From A to Z, and Blonde Blitzkrieg.
