Trivia / Around the World in 80 Days (2004)

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: Having been brought to work as a child by his parents at the French embassy in Hong Kong, Jackie Chan does know some French.
  • Adored by the Network: Family Channel (Canada's Disney Channel, not to be confused with the original name for ABC Family) went through a period at one point where the only movie they seemed to ever play was this movie.
  • Creator Killer:
    • This was one of several 2004 (domestic box office) bombs that mixed together with Roy E. Disney's second Save Disney campaign and general turmoil at The Walt Disney Company to bring CEO Michael Eisner's 21-year long reign to an end. Eisner was forced out the year after this film's release to allow president Bob Iger to keep Pixar in their family.
    • This movie also halted the cinematic career of writer David Titcher; this was his first film since 1987, and second overall. All of his credits past this point are back on television.
  • Fake Brit: American actress Kathy Bates portrays Queen Victoria.
  • Fake Nationality:
    • Austrian Arnold Schwarzenegger as Prince of Turkey.
    • Monique's actress, Cécile de France, is actually Belgian.
  • Production Posse: Sammo Hung, Daniel Wu, and Karen Mok thanks to their relations with Jackie Chan.
  • Real-Life Relative: Brothers Owen and Luke Wilson as the Wright brothers.
  • Star-Derailing Role:
    • This was the film that proved that Hollywood had no idea what to do with Jackie Chan and his miscasting killed his popularity in America for a few years. While he'd go on to star in a few better-received American films in The New '10s, he's nowhere near the superstar he once was.
    • It also didn't end Arnold Schwarzenegger's pre-governor career on a high note, as he wasn't exactly in high demand once he left politics.
  • What Could Have Been: Johnny Knoxville was originally cast as the San Francisco Hobo, but had to bow out due to conflicting schedules.
