Trivia / Adam Ruins Everything

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Most of the third season finale "Adam Ruins Himself" revolves around Adam confronting his insecurities, which take the form of another Adam Conover.
  • Executive Meddling:
    • In "Adam Ruins Malls", he mentions that his production team found a company that was willing to take a random formula that he made (pointing out that he's not medically licensed) and sell it as nutritional supplement, but TruTV executives told them that it was too dangerous to do so.
    • The Series Finale "Adam Ruins Himself" reveals that he had a segment ready to go about the NCAA, but TruTV vetoed it because they air some NCAA tournament games. The episode also revealed that TruTV made him cut some jokes at eHarmony's expense in "Adam Ruins Dating" and rework a segment in "Adam Ruins Football" from being solely about Gatorade to being about hydration in general because both Gatorade and eHarmony aired ads on the network.
  • Real-Life Relative:
  • Recycled Script: Some of the episodes expand on original CollegeHumor shorts as well as keeping the original word for word, like the Diamonds, Circumcision, and Purebreed shorts.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: If you listen closely to the background music, some of the episodes use music from The Sims 3.
  • Screwed by the Network: Or rather, Screwed by the Network's New Owners. According to Adam Conover, when AT&T bought out truTV's parent company Time Warner in 2018, they proceeded to gut the network as part of the restructuring, focusing more on reruns of Impractical Jokers because that was their biggest hit at the time. The show's creators saw the writing on the wall immediately, and started planning a big blowout finale and their futures after the show. When Adam got the call saying that they indeed weren't going to be renewing the show, he wasn't remotely surprised.
Adam: If you wanna know what killed Adam Ruins Everything, monopoly capitalism did. That's the murderer!
