Dream Ella is a fashion doll line by MGA Entertainment made primarily as a Take That! to Mattel 's Barbie.The line centers around Dream Ella (sometimes just called Ella) and her friends Yasmin and Aria who live in the real-world and in a fantasy world as fairies where you can "Be Whatever You Dream". Each main character also has a unicorn, and a little sister with her own baby unicorn.
Dream Ella provides examples of:
- Sudden Name Change: The line was originally called Aria ("Be Who You Aria") and starred a a red-head who was either cut or changed into the blonde Aria or Dream Ella. There was also a character named Barbara who was changed after Mattel threatened legal action (because of Barbie).
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Dream Ella and Bella are teal, Yasmin and Jaylen are pink, & Aria and Aubrey are purple.
- Token Trio: Dream Ella is Latina, Yasmin is Black, and Aria is white.
- Expy: Of Barbie, a lawsuit was even considered before the line was debuted (back when it was called Aria and there was a character named Barbara).
- Is seen by some of being one of Winx Club due to the whole transforming fairies thing.
- Limited Social Circle: Nobody but the main 6 humans/fairies are ever relevant (or even seen for the most part).
- Odd Name Out: Dream Ella and Dream Bella.
- Chromosome Casting: Like many doll lines, all the characters are girls. But there is a possibility for a "Ken" doll in the future.
- Cosmic Motifs: In the Celestial series.
