From left to right: Josie, Deb, and Billie
Deb: "If anybody asks, I am incredible mother and successful business woman with absolutely no debt. Josie is happy and engaged to a man, with absolutely no mental health issues. And Billie... Billie's a virgin!"
— "Such Daddy's Girls"

Such Brave Girls is a television Dramedy series produced by A24 for BBC 3.

Such Brave Girls includes examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer:
    • Billie is one to Nicky, her life completely revolves around him and practically every decision she makes is to keep him around. She bleaches her hair to look more like the girl he left her for and even tries to have his baby to keep him around.
    • Seb to Josie. She’s clearly not interested in him at all, or perhaps any man for that matter, but stays with him to fulfill her mother’s wishes.
  • Almost Kiss: Josie has one with Sid behind the bar, but ducks out at the last second after becoming overwhelmed with anxiety.
  • Be a Whore to Get Your Man: A tactic used both by Billie and Deb. Billie frequently invites Nicky over for sex, she usually proclaims her love for her while he’s clearly there just to get laid. Deb also sneaks off with Dev many times, even with her daughters in the house. She even attempts this on their road trip to console Dev after he has a breakdown over his wife again.
  • Big Fancy House: The primary reason Deb is interested in Dev is because he apparently lives in one of these, complete with heated bathroom floors.
  • Butch Lesbian: Sid, Josie’s crush from the bar, fits the description pretty well.
  • Camping Episode: Episode 4 “Such Outdoorsy Girls” sees the girls embarking on a camping trip to Dev’s cabin he used to visit with his wife. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Disappeared Dad: Josie and Billie’s father apparently stepped out to get tea bags 10 years ago and never came back.
  • Dysfunction Junction: The show in essence explores how each characters trauma complicates their relationships to each other:
    • Josie is severely anxious and openly discusses her mental health challenges with everyone around her. She also struggles with developing her sexuality while trapped in a relationship with Seb.
    • Billie is obsessed with Nicky and will do everything in her power to impress him.
    • Deb believes that only a man can solve her and her daughters problems and as a result does everything she can to keep her boyfriend Dev around, including fabricated her ex husband’s death.
    • Dev is still grieving the death of his wife despite the fact he is now seeing Deb. Naturally this severely complicates their relationship as Deb knows she will ultimately never be able to replace her.
  • Ironic Echo: In "Happy Girls" Deb takes Josie shopping for a new dress. Josie complains that the one she's picked will make her look like a milkmaid, but is eventually convinced to buy it. Later when Josie and Billie get in a fight, Billie threatens to pour ketchup all over the new dress:
    Josie: "Not the dress!"
Billie: "OH YOU LOOK LIKE A FUCKING MILKMAID!"
  • Loophole Abuse: Josie refuses to have sex with Seb, but reluctantly agrees to give him handjobs on Mondays and Wednesdays. Seb suggests specials occasions should qualify as well which Josie also agrees to. Unfortunately for her, it’s her birthday tomorrow, which counts as a special occasion.
  • Misery Poker:
    • After Sid helps get rid of Seb, her and Josie play this under the bar. Naturally this leads to Josie developing a massive crush on her.
    • While discussing Dev’s deceased wife at a dinner party, Deb decides to play this with him by claiming she too tragically and unexpectedly lost her spouse. While her husband is no longer in the picture, he is very much alive and now Deb must keep this charade going indefinitely.
  • Mood Whiplash: In a desperate attempt to catch Nicky’s attention, Billie decides to bleach her hair with the help of her sister Josie. The bleach is incredibly painful, however, and Billie begins to cry, foam at the mouth, and claim the pain is so severe she thinks she will die. Smash Cut to her triumphantly standing on the stairs with her new hair color.
“I look incredible right?”
  • My Hair Came Out Green: At first it seems Billie’s at home hair bleaching endeavor went smoothly (barring mention the excruciating pain she endured). She’s later horrified to discover that the bleach transferred the ASDA logo from the plastic bag she used as a setting cap across the back of her head.
  • Suck E. Cheese's: Bilie works at one, dressing as a green witch to entertain children. She clearly hates it.
