- A Knight's Tale as Inquisitor takes place after the events of Fate/Zero, where Arturia failed to obtain the Holy Grail that would allow her to save Camelot from its doom. Now finding herself on Thedas, she sees her current adventure as a new lease on life and chance to succeed where she has failed her kingdom previously.
- Very common in Frozen fanfiction like Frozen Hearts (Sakume) and A Marriage Of Convenience, where Prince Hans goes to great lengths to seek forgiveness from Anna and Elsa for his actions in the film. This was brought about by rumors of this happening in the actual sequel.
- Hope for the Heartless is about the Horned King being released from the Black Cauldron by the Fates for a period of 18 months so that he can earn his one and only chance to be free from the Cauldron by earning a human's love in spite of all his sins.
Final Fantasy IV ROM Hacks
- In Final Fantasy IV Unprecedented Crisis, Cecil's canonical redemption quest on Mt. Ordeals is optional, and there's separate endings for Dark Knight Cecil and Paladin Cecil.
- In Apotheosis, All Might helped drive Izuku into villainy with how he treated him, and hopes to redeem himself by saving him. Izuku, for his part, is having none of it.
- A Ballad of the Dragon and She-Wolf gives one to Lord Glover. He is one of the first to volunteer on a mission to fight the Dead, which he does in penance for his past refusal to aid Jon and Sansa against the Boltons. Glover's mere participation redeems him in Jon's eyes, but when they get overwhelmed by wights Glover volunteers to stay back and fight them off so the rest of the party can escape safely.
- A Raven Under the Starlight: Master Cyclonis begins the fic as a power-hungry, would-be conqueror-despot, hellbent on making up for her lost empire and upholding her evil imperial forebears' legacy. Under Phoenix's positive influence, Cyclonis begins reconsidering what she wants to do with her life and how she wants to live it instead of following the path that her evil ancestors laid out for her.
