"A Resident Advisor and the Word 'Sketchy'" is an episode of Young Sheldon that first aired October 27, 2022.

Sheldon wants to spend the night in his dorm room, as he has an 8:00 am class the following morning. In his dorm, other students are playing loud music and skateboarding in the halls, so Sheldon complains to the resident advisor, but the RA doesn't do anything.

Sheldon then goes to President Hagemeyer (Wendie Malick) to complain, and asks if he can be the new RA for the dorm. Hagemeyer accepts his request, but the other students don't follow any of Sheldon's new rules. Sheldon then gets a signed document from Hagemeyer stating his authority, but when he shows it to a rule-breaking student, the student rips it up. Sheldon then turns off the hot water for the floor, saying that the students will get it back when they follow rules; the students then duct-tape Sheldon to a wall in the hallway.

Meanwhile, Mary and George Sr. have successfully rekindled their romance. Missy walks in on them being affectionate several times. Later, in the bedroom, Mary tells George that she wants to have another child, but George strongly disagrees and walks out.

Meanwhile, the video store next to Connie's gambling room is going out of business, and Connie's gambling room is at capacity, so she decides to buy the video store and put a secret casino in the back. She invites Dale (Craig T. Nelson) to be her business partner, in order to pay back the fine from the Border Patrol. Connie and Dale then drive to Mississippi to buy a bunch of video poker machines from a black-market dealer named Dennis (Todd Giebenhain).

On the drive back, Dale admits (after much persuasion from Connie) that he was wrong to break up with her. Connie then notices a suspicious car following them, and when they stop at a diner, Dennis walks in with them. Dennis says that he noticed their Texas license plates, and since video poker is illegal in Texas, he threatens to call the cops. Connie then pretends to go to the bathroom, and then goes out and knifes Dennis's tires; Dale can see it from his angle, but Dennis can't. Connie then signals to Dale to leave, and so Dale punches Dennis in the face and knocks him unconscious, and then leaves.

Meanwhile, Mandy is by herself at Connie's house. Georgie asks her if she needs anything from him, but she says no. Georgie later comes over after having rented both a video about childbirth and Look Who's Talking from the video store; Mandy lets him stay, but is very clear that their get-together is not a date. Missy then comes over, and sits on the couch next to Mandy (where Georgie was sitting), and Mandy lets her stay there. Georgie and Mandy start arguing, and Missy enjoys listening to them.

Tropes

  • Apologetic Attacker: Dale apologizes to Dennis before punching him out and making a run for it.
  • Bound and Gagged: The episode ends with Sheldon taped to the wall with duct tape, with a student then taping his mouth shut.
  • Hair Reboot: Missy's hair is back to its usual color despite her botched attempt at bleaching it in the previous episode.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: It doesn't take Missy long to figure out that her parents are having sex or about to have sex. She's grossed out and once she's confirmed her suspicion wants them to stop talking.
  • Previously on…: We're reminded that Dale went to the border to bail Connie out, and that now she owes him, and also that Missy's aware that Georgie got Mandy pregnant.
  • Pop the Tires: When Dennis is shaking down Connie and Dale, Connie excuses herself to the bathroom, but instead slashes the tires on Dennis' car.
  • Shout-Out to Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert: Trying to convince Mandy to watch Look Who's Talking, Georgie mentions the movie got two thumbs up from the famous Chicago critics.
  • Third Wheel: To get away from her over affectionate parents, Missy goes to Connie's where Georgie is trying to woo Mandy. She literally sits between them, thwarting Georgie's attempts to get Mandy to like him (not that Mandy would have let him anyway).
  • Won't Take "Yes" for an Answer: Sheldon asks Mary to stay the night and is about to read a list of reasons why it's a good idea. Mary agrees immediately, but Sheldon insists on reading the whole list anyway. The gag is then repeated when Sheldon asks President Hagemeyer to be made resident advisor.
  • Yellow Sash of Power: Sheldon is made resident advisor of his dorm floor, the college equivalent of hall monitor. Naturally, no one takes him seriously.
