Go To

On a safari hunt in Africa, the gang discovers that the animals are changing into a yellow color and doing strange things. They must solve the mystery fast or else the same thing might happen to Scooby.

This episode contains examples of the following:

  • Angry, Angry Hippos: One of the aggressive glowing animals is a hippopotamus.
  • Attack of the Killer Whatever: Glowing Safari Animals.
  • Brick Joke: After the disastrous rapids incident, the other boat riders find the Hunseckers sitting alone together, and Honey says that they were just reminiscing about their wedding night at Niagara Falls. After they're found out as the culprits, Henry tells Honey that he said they should go back to Niagara Falls.
  • Cats Are Mean: The glowing lion and leopard.
  • Cruel Elephant: One of the animal demons takes the form of an aggressive elephant that tries to capture Daphne. Subverted in that it's just a normal elephant hypnotized into acting vicious.
  • Darkest Africa: It's not stated which part of Africa the gang travel to, with their guide Robbie being a student at a college in Cape Town (which is in South Africa) and accompanying t-shirt designer Lloyd who is an undercover police officer from the Malawi police, but the reserve they visit is predominantly jungles with a few Misplaced Wildlife.
  • Foreshadowing: When everybody end up back at the river and discover the cargo boat, Mrs. Hensecker says they should stay away from the boat because it scares her. Turns out thr Henseckers are the ones behind the missing animals and are trying to keep themselves from being caught.
  • Green Gators: The glowing animals include a couple of alligators/crocodiles.
  • Killer Gorilla: Played with. One of the jungle demons takes the form of an aggressive gorilla, which is just an ordinary gorilla that's been Brainwashed and Crazy. Normal gorillas are portrayed as gentle just like in real life.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: The episode features lions, giraffes, zebras, impalas, warthogs, and cheetahs living in a jungle rather than the savannah. At one point, jaguars make an appearance (although they're most likely meant to be leopards, with the spots in their rosettes being an animation error).
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Scooby and Shaggy flee from a crocodile that tries to eat them, only for it to end up swallowing their rubber raft and comically inflating. Later during the chase sequence, Fred and Daphne briefly get surrounded by jungle demon crocodiles.
  • Rhino Rampage: One of the glowing, rampaging animals is a rhino.
  • Undercover Cop Reveal: Lloyd Mbuku is an undercover police officer pretending to be a souvenir T-shirt salesman to investigate the disappearances of the animals, but he is forced to reveal himself to Velma and Daphne after the latter finds his police badge in his wallet.
  • Unholy Matrimony: Played With; Henry and Honey Hensecker are the culprits of the week, and they spend a lot of the episode being lovey-dovey. Velma ultimately reveals that they were doing this because a mechanism on Henry's shoulder triggered something to hypnotize the animals. Given that she puts her hand on his shoulder to demonstrate, Honey calls her a floozy and snaps at her to get off her man. However, they immediately start arguing and blaming each other when they're found out and hauled off by the local police.
