Recap / Wakfu S1E13 "Calm Blue Sea"

Go To

While our heroes depart from Bonta towards Oma Island, Nox in his lair reawakens and prepares to collect more Wakfu for his purposes, visiting a familiar place... Meanwhile, the heroe's trip takes a turn for the worst when something takes advantge of nightfall to pick the companions, one by one....

Tropes:

  • All Webbed Up: With his newfound arachne powers, Skribble can shoot webs, which he uses to bind and capture the heroes... except for Dally (thought he was dead) and Az (he missed him).
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Downplayed. While mocking Skribble, Rubilax points out that at least he does have a Guardian worthy of this name, showing a shiver of pride for Dally.
  • Call-Back: The subplot with Nox is one big reference to the second episode, featuring another encounter between Nox and Alibert and the Soft Oak.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Skribble plans to torment a sea-sick Dally by force feeding him berries to make him even more ill.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Skribble, the Shushu map, get's the lion's share of the episode as the villain.
  • Defiant to the End: Even though he's wrapped in web and unable to defend himself, Rubilax still treats Skribble with mockery and contempt.
  • Eaten Alive: Skribble is eaten by an Arachne (a small spider): as a result, he manages to possess it from the inside out and get himself a body with web-slinging powers.
  • Evil Laugh: Played for laughs when Eva does an epic one after swearing to beat Ruel at dice so that he'll have to do the chores on the ship for a week.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Being a lesser Shushu, Skribble is envious of more powerful demons such as Shadofang and Rubilax, and is actually stunned when Yugo swears to become his Guardian, which would make him the only Lesser Shushu with a Guardian.
  • Hidden Depths: The episode opens with a flashback of a happy family playing in a field of wheat... Nox's family, as we soon find out. Later he also heals Alibert of his Rapid Aging out of sheer respect for his Papa Wolf tendencies, trying to invoke the Mirror Character trope between the two of them.
  • Hysterical Woman: Amalia takes the disappearances bad, and is pretty vocal about it with Yugo, at one point even suggesting they just hide somewhere safe and wait for daybreak.
  • Killed Off for Real: The Soft Oak is drained of his Wakfu by Nox's clock.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In the beginning, we learn that Ruel cheated at games to skip the chores. By the end of the episode, he loses at dice (which he personally shaved) and is forced to do a week worth's of chores.
  • Left for Dead: The reason why Dally wasn't captured? Skribble though he was dead (he was just very seasick and ate too much red berries).
  • Screaming at Squick: After Eva mentions that as far as they know, Ruel may have just gone to the toilet, Amalia suddenly stops before a doorway with a blood-curdling scream... no, she didn't saw anything horrible, she just had an Imagine Spot of Ruel on the toilet.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Amalia sees Eva being taken away she has a breakdown... I mean, did you see how ruffled her hair was!? Played for laughs, of course.
  • Shout-Out: There's an eighth passenger... anyone?
  • Spy Bot: Unbestknown to the members of the Brotherhood a Noxine (one of Nox's surveillance insect-like robots) has infiltrated their ship to spy on them. None of the heroes ever find about its presence.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: Part of Skribble's motivation is to show how much underestimated he was. Still, Rubilax isn't impressed.
