The Birthweek Song

Tori struggles to find the perfect present for Trina's birthday and ends up writing her a song, but Trina turns the song into cash by selling it.

Meanwhile, Robbie and Cat help Robbie's grandmother work on her new computer.

Tropes:

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Grandparents; Robbie's "Mamaw" doesn't like Cat, and tries to set him up with another girl. Plus his unseen grandfather has No Indoor Voice.
  • Birthday Episode: For Trina.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Cat apparently can't according to Robbie.
Robbie: Alright, before I take you in there, I should warn you.
    Cat: About?
Robbie: My grandmother, she can be...critical.
Cat: That's okay. I take criticism really well.
    Robbie: No, you don't.
  • Friendship Song: "You're the Reason", the song Tori writes Trina for her birthday, is about their relationship as sisters and how much she does for her.
  • A Gift for Themselves: Trina buys herself a pair of shoes she'd wanted. This causes problems for Tori, who was planning on getting Trina those exact shoes and now must come up with another gift idea.
  • Gift of Song: With Andre's help, Tori writes "You're the Reason" in honor of Trina and performs it at her birthday party as her present. Trina initially refuses to accept it as a present because it's not something she can physically interact with, so Tori gives her a flash drive with the song on it as backup.
  • Insistent Terminology: Trina thinks a birthday isn't enough celebrations, so she calls it her "birthweek".
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Jade snarkily suggests that Tori get some "talent" as a birthweek gift for Trina. Tori looks put out but actually can't contest the remark.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Trina sells the song that Tori wrote and pretends that she sang it to record professionally. After a few hours of botched recording, Trina is forced to fess up when the producers say they know she didn't sing it, and Tori gets recorded instead. The producers also refuse to give Trina coffee but they do for Andre, who was co-writer on the song.
  • No Ending: The episode ends with the producers leaving the studio and turning off the lights, and has Tori still in the recording booth and Andre and Trina still out.
  • She's Not My Girlfriend: Robbie reassures Mamaw that Cat is just a friend and not her girlfriend. Mamaw doesn't believe her and tries setting him up with a local girl.
  • Spoiled Brat: Trina gets a "birthweek" instead of a birthday, and lambasts Tori for giving her a song instead of a tangible gift with a price tag.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: Trina shows no gratitude whatsoever for the song Tori wrote for her birthday.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: A literal example: Tori apparently keeps a flash drive with the song on it inside her bra cup.
