Go To

Jarod attempts to reunite with his family, but the Centre is closing in.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Air-Vent Passageway: This seems to be the main way of infiltrating and escaping the Centre. The air vents may have been made for this very purpose, considering how big they are: large and sturdy enough for a grown man to stand upright in and run through.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: What causes Kyle's detached demeanor to crack.
Miss Parker: Did you kill my mother?
  • Big "NO!": Jarod, after seeing the van his brother was in explode.
  • Bond One-Liner: Mr. Raines is about to shoot Jarod when an unidentified third party shoots Raines' oxygen tank, setting him on fire; when she arrives on the scene, Miss Parker says, "I thought he gave up smoking."
  • Camera Spoofing: Broots hacks the security camera feed to the room where Kyle is being held and loops it so that Miss Parker can have a private and unauthorized conversation.
  • Cut Apart: A tense sequence cuts between Jarod escaping through the Centre's air vents and the Centre staff tracking him down using motion sensors. The pursuers catch up with the motion in the air vents, pull open a hatch, and find... Angelo, being a distraction.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Sydney had no idea that Kyle was Jarod's brother.
  • Every Car Is a Pinto: A van goes up in a huge fireball while the FBI are shooting at it.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Sydney delays the Sweepers' car long enough for Margaret and Emily's taxi to get away.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Though Jarod sees Margaret and Emily, his father noticeably isn't shown. The end of Season 3 reveals Charles was separated from Margaret and Emily after a failed attempt to rescue Jarod and has been searching for them for years.
    • Mr. Parker recaps the situation to a superior on the phone, referring to him as Mr. Lyle and sounding quite intimidated by him. Mr. Parker is soon escorted away for a face-to-face meeting, clearing the way for Lyle to take over in the next episode.
  • Go On Without Me: Jarod's brother. Unlike many instances of this trope, they do, however regretfully, go on without him.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Kyle says he didn't want to hurt Harriet, but he was just so certain that he knew where Charles and Margaret were.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: Jarod has Mr. Raines at gun point with nobody around to intervene, but can't bring himself to kill him in cold blood, and says that if he killed Raines now he would be no better than the kind of killer Mr. Raines has been trying to create.
  • Internal Reveal: Jarod learns that Angelo has been helping him on the inside.
  • Irony: Jarod reflects on how, after a year of searching for answers in the big wide world, the biggest clue to his past is back in the place he escaped from.
  • Little "No": Kyle's reaction when asked if he killed Catherine Parker.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Mr. Parker, the head of the Centre, has been the season's Big Bad, but this episode shows that there's someone above him who treats him as peremptorily as he treats his subordinates.
  • Manly Tears: A flashback shows Charles weeping over his sons being taken from him.
  • The Mole: Angelo is revealed to be the mysterious "C.J." who has been helping Jarod from inside the Centre.
  • Moment of Silence: A non-death-related example; when Jarod's mother arrives for their meeting, the diegetic sounds fade out and the vision goes into slow motion to represent the depths of Jarod's emotional reaction.
  • Never Found the Body: Jarod's brother apparently dies in an explosion and fire that leaves no remains — and sure enough, he eventually turns out to have survived.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Jarod's devastation over his reunion with the family being cut short gives way to him beating up the nearest Sweepers.
  • The Reveal:
    • Jarod and Kyle's parents are known only as Charles and Margaret. Catherine Parker was able to provide them with safe shelter, where they had a daughter, Emily.
    • Kyle's pen pal is Angelo.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Just as Jarod sees Margaret and Emily in the flesh, he spots Sydney in the background and notices all the surrounding Sweepers.
