Jarod becomes a college professor to investigation the disappearance of a med student. At the Centre, Mr. Parker has gone missing, and his position as head of the Centre is being filled by the mysterious Mr. Lyle.
This episode contains examples of:
- Big "NO!": Jarod, in the flashbacks to him being experimented on at the Centre.
- Buried Alive: The missing med student, Enrique, was buried alive. Jarod threatens his murderer with the same fate.
- Chair Reveal: Miss Parker goes to see her father in his office, but when his high-backed chair swings around there's somebody else sitting in it — Mr. Lyle, making his entrance to the series.
- Cramming the Coffin: A variation. The victim was hidden in a coffin that was due for burial, while the rightful occupant of the coffin was hidden among the practice cadavers in the medical school where the killer works.
- Deus Exit Machina: The experiment performed on Jarod occurred while Sydney was ordered by Raines to attend a symposium in Europe. Though never said outright, Sydney suspects they didn't want him around to possibly interfere with the experiment.
- Disposable Vagrant: Jarod investigates the disappearance of a med student named Enrique. It turns out his teacher, Dr. Fein, was developing a new resuscitation drug. Fein tested it on homeless people and one of them (Broad Street Bill) died. Enrique discovered this, which was why he disappeared.Jarod: You took an innocent homeless man, and you turned him into your guinea pig. Someone to test your heart drug on. Someone that you didn't think would be missed if it didn’t work. Well, it didn't work, did it?! And someone did miss him. Enrique. So, you buried him alive to save your research.
- Halloween Episode: Jarod learns about Halloween and gets in the spirit of it. He delivers a ghoulish punishment for Dr. Fein and later goes trick-or-treating as the scariest thing he can imagine (Mr. Raines).
- Magical Defibrillator: Used to revive a flat-lined experimental subject.
- Shout-Out: Jarod's alias of the week is "Jarod Howard", leading to a scene with somebody innocently calling out "Dr. Howard! Dr. Fein! Dr. Howard!"
- Skyward Scream: The villain of the week does one when he thinks Jarod's going to bury him alive. For extra effect, the camera pulls up into the sky as he does, having to go a bit further since it's starting at the bottom of a six-foot-deep hole.
- Strapped to an Operating Table: One of the signs that Dr. Fein's research isn't as innocent as he makes out is that the inner room of his lab has a chair with restraints fitted.
- Survivor's Guilt: Jarod still struggles with leaving Kyle behind in the previous episode.
- Underestimating Badassery: Mr. Lyle says the people above him are openly incredulous that the pursuit team has spent a year failing to capture Jarod, with Brigitte adding he is just one man. Miss Parker pointing out the capabilities of a skilled Pretender falls on deaf ears.
- Wham Episode: Mr. Lyle takes over for the absent Mr. Parker and adds a new Cleaner (Brigitte) to the pursuit effort.
- You're Insane!: As Jarod is making a show of burying Fein alive.Fein: You're crazy!
Jarod: Uh-uh-uh-uh! That is not a very nice thing to say to a man with a shovel!
