"Exchange of Heart"
To divert the attention of his helicopter dads, Clyde arranges for an exchange student to stay with them.
"Exchange of Heart"
- Aesop Amnesia: Clyde's dads have apparently forgotten the lesson they learned in "Snow Way Down" about not being so overprotective of Clyde.
- A Day in the Limelight: For Clyde.
- Foreign Exchange Student: Tiago, who comes from Brazil.
- Gone Horribly Right: Clyde invited Tiago to live with them so he can have more freedom from his dads. It works when his dads leave the house for most of the day until they leave without telling Clyde where they'd gone.
- Not a Morning Person: When Clyde and Lincoln get Lori to drive him to the airport, she is clearly a mess. As expected, she falls asleep at the wheel.
- Safety Freak: Clyde's dads, as usual. They make Clyde wear a seat belt when he sits down for breakfast, have him put on safety goggles when the pressure cooker is on, and won't let him eat pickles because they heard that a man died from choking on one in the 1800s.
"Community Disservice"
Lola takes a timid new classmate under her wing and gives her a social butterfly transformation.
"Community Disservice"
- A Day in the Limelight: For Lola.
- Dream Intro: The episode begins with Lola daydreaming about winning the Little Miss Sunbeam Pageant.
- Innocent Inaccurate: Lana informs Lola that Meli's been in the bathroom during the whole trip in Dairyland, but she assumes it's because the cheese made her sick.
- It's All About Me: Lola tries to help Meli open up by telling her to do things that help her (Lola) stand out, and wouldn't help someone like Meli. Lola eventually realizes this and spends more time with Meli doing things she likes and introducing her to kids she has more in common with.
- Karmic Jackpot: Lola drops out of the pageant when she learns that Meli has been hiding in the bathroom the entire field trip and decides she doesn't deserve to win the pageant. She then goes to Dairyland to help Meli makes friends for real. Meli wins a carnival game and chooses a cheese tiara for Lola.
- Kids Are Cruel: At least, in Lola's imagination they are. In one of her Imagine Spots of Meli having a terrible time at Dairyland, a group of kids all laugh at her when she drops her candy apple in the mud.
- Loophole Abuse: As Rita drops her daughters off, she tells Lana she's not allowed to eat gum she finds on the ground at Dairyland. She doesn't say anything about any other foods that might be on the ground.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Lola has this reaction after leaving Meli on a field trip to Dairyland so she can compete in a pageant, and learning from Lana that Meli has been hiding in the bathroom the whole time instead of having fun with everyone.
- Secretly Selfish: Lola only spends time with Meli to get in her 10 hours of public service that were required in order for her to participate in the recent pageant. She gets better though.
- Shrinking Violet: Meli.
- Shout-Out: The "cool fourth-graders" Lola interacts with look like black-coated versions of Sector V from Codename: Kids Next Door.
- White Man's Burden: Deconstructed. White blonde Lola takes it upon herself to lift up dark-skinned Latina Meli and help her fit in school, but she only does it for the "Community Service" extra credit, and she pushes her into bombastic, spotlight-stealing activities that are fit for Lola but for which a Shrinking Violet like Meli is not prepared. Lola has a Jerkass Realization when Lana tells her (in her own way) about Meli's miserable time in Dairyland, and she rushes back to help her, this time on Meli's own terms: by engaging in activities of her choice and introducing her to friends with common tastes.
