Recap / The Interns S 7 E 16

Go To

Phil was robbed while in subway, losing his pursue. Everyone considers this to be lost case, but he still tries to ask police for help. Not only he wastes two days on it, but gets humiliated by "helpful officer Gleb Zheglov", who recorded him and uploaded the video on YouTube. While Phil decides to complain to "Zheglov's" boss, Lobanov finds his "stolen" pursue... in the hospital, locked in the locker. Phil gets so angry at police incompetence, he decides to return to USA, and Bykov cooperates with "Zheglov", to make him "find" Phil's pursue and return it to him, restoring his trust. This works.

Gleb's patient has a very, very jealous and aggressive husband, who interferes with Gleb's work, and outright threatens to injure him if he ever tries to "hit" on his wife. Unfortunately, it's the the patient who tries to hit on Gleb, while he wants nothing to do with her. When Gleb refuses her advances, she tries to blackmail him with a threat to call her aggressive husband on him for "harassing" her. Gleb tries to ask Semyon for help, but she uses the same threat against him to force Gleb back. They decides to dump her on someone else — by providing her with a reason to be checked for some infections for a couple of days, in hope that she would switch her attention from them.

Kisegach has a special task for Varya — to become the face of the hospital, a girl who would represent the whole team. This task is not easy: there're always some jerks who would envy her, and would attempt to press her into quitting altogether ; that is exactly what happened with her predecessor. And her relationship with David may be used against her... which is exactly what happens: every single booklet or poster with Varya's face on it gets sabotaged, with the doodle tits, and the words "whore" and "anaesthetist's slut" on them (despite them never sleeping together before). Since she has nothing left to lose, Varya decides to use it as excuse to seduce David for real.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Gleb's patient tries to hit on him in rather aggressive manner, despite being fat, ugly, twice his age and having a husband who just not long ago threatened to injure Gleb if he tries to hit on her. When he rejects her, she tries to outright blackmail him with her husband.
  • Accidental Truth: Gleb and Semyon sends their patient into infection department just to get rid of her (and her husband). Then it turns out that she has hepatitis.
  • Blackmail: When Gleb refuses her advances, his patient tries to outright blackmail him by using her aggressive jealous husband; either he would do as she ask, or she would tell the husband that Gleb harassed her. To deal with her, Gleb tries to send Semyon... and patient blackmails him into calling Gleb, or she would tell her husband that it was him who harassed her.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Gleb's patient's husband is big, dumb, jealous and aggressive guy from some rural area who threatens to injure him if he would attempt to "hit" on his wife. Said wife is a fat, ugly woman twice Gleb's age; "attempt to hit on her" was Gleb's order to undress, so he may check her with stethoscope. Later, when Gleb and Semyon manages to dump her into Infection department, the husband attacks the other doctor when he tries to take a sample for analyse. Gleb thinks that after that, he likely would be banned from visiting the hospital (if not arrested outright).
  • Five-Finger Discount: Phil's plot gets kickstarted by someone pickpocketing him in subway. Or, rather, him thinking so; in truth, he simply forgot it in the hospital.
  • Half-Witted Hillbilly: Gleb's patient and her husband are stereotypical Russian post-Soviet hillbillies — dumb, with low education and intellect, even lower culture and modesty and total lack of etiquette and sense of fashion. In the husband's case, he is also extremely aggressive and jealous, which is also a common stereotype.
  • I Was Having Such a Nice Dream: Varya has a dream about her and David in romantic situation in the elevator (with the perspective for it to become something more in the process), but then... ring, ring, ring...
  • The Perils of Being the Best: Kisegach has a special task for Varya: to become official face of the hospital, that one girl who would represent the whole team — on booklets, posters, etc. This is not an easy task: there're always some jerks who would envy her, and would attempt to press her into quitting; that's exactly what happened with her predecessor. Just as predicted, Varya herself gets hit by the similar attacks; because of her relationship with David, every single one of those booklets gets vandalised, mostly with such words as "whore" or "anaesthetist's slut", driving her to tears.
  • Police Are Useless: Everyone warns Phil to not bother with asking Russian police for help with his stolen pursue; he insists.
    • The officer (who introduces himself as Gleb Zheglov) whom Phil asks for help doesn't even bother to pretend that he is interested in his case (or his attempts to describe "suspects"), and his comments stops just short from outright admitting "I don't care". Phil still considers the cops to be friendly and helpful, when they promises him to find his pursue in no time. When Bykov and Varya hears about this, they can't help but laugh.
    • When Phil returns, "Zheglov" records him on a video, and uploads it on YouTube. When Phil finds out, he gets outraged and decides to complain to "Zheglov's" boss, which achieves nothing but further disappointment in police. Phil gets so disappointed, in fact, he considers to return to USA, so Bykov cooperates with "Zheglov" to restore his trust, by providing him with Phil's pursue (which Lobanov previously found in the hospital, locked in the locker), which they would then "find" and return to Phil. This works.
  • Really Gets Around: Implied to be the case with Gleb's patient; she's very aggressive in attempts to bed Gleb (his opinion be damned), using her Crazy Jealous Guy husband to blackmail him (said husband is very quick to consider anyone going closer to his woman trying to harass her). Later we learn that the wife has hepatitis.
  • Shout-Out: Police officer introduces himself as Gleb Zheglov, referencing The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed.
