Gumball tricks Clayton into taking his form to take his place in detention, but Clayton soon finds being other people is addicting.
Tropes:
- Artistic License – Biology: The "alligator" that attacks the boys in the sewers is actually a crocodile, as evidenced by its angular snout and interlocking teeth.
- Call-Back: As Clayton explains that he'd been turning into objects, a montage of scenes from previous episodes from the season plays, with Clayton revealed as random objects in the background, such as the trophy on the shelf during Mr. Cornielle's "Training Montage" in "The Cage". Watching those episodes reveal that Clayton actually did cameo in those scenes.
- Character Development: Clayton actually beat his compulsive lying habit since "The Skull".
- Continuity Nod: When talking about how Gumball's life is more exciting than his own, Clayton mentions the time Gumball saved the school from being blown up.
- Crazy-Prepared: Gumball knew that he would eventually wind up at the Robinsons' house as he tried to sleep in, hiding a change of clothes, cereal and an escape ladder in their bedroom.
- Cross-Referenced Titles: With Season 3's "The Nobody". Both episodes deal with a sense of individuality in Elmore.
- A Day in the Limelight: The third and final one for Clayton.
- Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: "Don't worry, I found an alligator to hold on to."
- Facial Composite Failure: Larry is describing to Donut Cop the man he saw ran out after the bus crashed into the mall. Unfortunately, he was describing Clayton shaped like Larry himself, and Donut Cop gives him a head start before he releases the police dogs.
- Five-Second Foreshadowing: When they're in the pipe:
- "Clayton" talks about how awesome Gumball is.
- "Gumball" mentions all the singing they do and starts to sing, while "Clayton" asks if they can skip that, ten seconds before it's revealed they swapped and Gumball's the one in danger.
- Imagine Spotting: Clayton has to explain to Gumball and Darwin that he wasn't the ball in his football flashback.
- They Look Just Like Everyone Else!: Gumball and Darwin's dilemma as they try to stop Clayton.
