Baloo decides to visit a weight loss clinic so that he can lose enough weight to escort Rebecca to the Pilot's Ball in a slimming tuxedo. However, due to having mistaken a guacamole stain on the map for the location, he ends up in a Thembrian prison, which he mistakes for the weight loss clinic.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Baloo is sentenced to excecution for theft of the Thembrian government ceiling fan, wanton destruction of Thembrian government dishes, and wasting Thembrian government steam.
  • Bamboo Technology: Professor Crackpotkin builds a plane out of the things he stole from Colonel Slammer, including his ceiling fan for the propeller, and his filing cabinet for the cockpit.
  • Diet Episode: In this episode, Baloo discovers that he has become too fat to fit into his old tuxedo, so he attempts to visit a weight loss clinic, only to end up in a Thembrian prison.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Colonel Slammer finds he's out of ammunition during Baloo's execution, he instead decides to sentence Baloo to 299 years in prison. Baloo asks Slammer if he can be let out on Saturday so he can take Rebecca to the pilot's ball, this gives Slammer the idea to postpone Baloo's execution to Saturday, since by then, he'll get a new shipment of ammunition.
  • Longer-Than-Life Sentence: Colonel Slammer sentences Baloo to 299 years in prison when he's unable to have him executed.
  • Mythology Gag: When Baloo lands on Bedevilled Island, he floats on his back in a stream eating food off of his stomach, much like he did in The Jungle Book (1967).
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: The owner of the health spa that Baloo tries to visit, only to end up on Bedivilled Island is called Elizabeth Tapir.
  • Not Where They Thought: When Baloo arrives at Bedevilled Island Prsion, he mistakes it for a weight loss clinic. As a result, he keeps mistaking the Colonel Slammer's punishments for ways to lose weight.
  • Pet the Dog: At the end of the episode, Rebecca gets Baloo an elastic cumberbund as his reward for attempting to lose weight.
  • Popping Buttons: This episode begins with Baloo getting ready to go to the Pilot's Ball with Rebecca, but when he gets his old tuxedo all buttoned up, the button pops off and ricochets all over the room. It was a sign that Baloo definitely needed to go on a diet.
  • Poverty Food: The staple diet of Thembria is "gruel", it looks like something used as glue more than food. When Baloo is trapped in a Thembrian prison camp, he's roped into a plot by Professor Crackpotkin to blow off Thembria's "Strategic Gruel Reserves".
  • Prison Episode: Baloo accidentally winds up in the Bedevilled Island prison after having mistaken it for a weight loss clinic. When he finds out the truth, he's roped into escaping with the help of Professor Crackpotkin.
  • Punny Title: This episode's title is a reference to the saying, "Cruel and unusual punishment".
  • Read the Map Upside Down: Baloo ends up on Bedevilled Island after having mistaken a guacamole stain on the map for the location of a weight loss clinic.
  • Shout-Out: When Baloo decides to get more to eat, he walks up to Colonel Slammer and tells him "Please, sir. I want some more." in a similar way to the title character of Oliver Twist.
  • Sticky Situation: Baloo uses barrels of glue to stop the flow of gruel that floods Thembria and stick Professor Crackpotkin in place.
