Go To

The forty-third episode of TaleSpin.

To convince Molly that Santa Claus is real, Baloo flies her to the North Pole to deliver her letter to Santa in person by having Louie pose as Santa and his nightclub pose as the North Pole. What neither of them know is that all Molly wants for Christmas is for it to snow in Cape Suzette. Meanwhile, Don Karnage and his Air Pirates try to steal Christmas presents.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bad Is Good and Good Is Bad: When the Air Pirates complain to Don Karnage that they're getting nothing for Christmas because they've been bad this year, Gibber whispers to Karnage that they're going to be good next year. Upon hearing this, Karnage tells them that bad is good.
  • Big Storm Episode: A rainstorm breaks out when Baloo plans to dump Rebecca's Sudsy Wudsy soap flakes from the Sea Duck. It compromises Baloo's plan to make it snow for Molly, but it does help him defeat Karnage and the Air Pirates.
  • Catch Your Death of Cold: When Rebecca finds a heartbroken Molly, still clad in her pajamas, she tells her to put her coat on so she doesn't catch a cold on Christmas.
  • Chimney Entry: Louie, disguised as Santa Claus, enters his nightclub through his chimney to convince Molly that he is Santa Claus.
  • Christmas Episode: A majority of this episode's events take place on Christmas Eve.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After Molly comes to the conclusion that Baloo lied to her about the Peppermint Fairy, she says that she bets Santa Claus is a load of baloney. Upon hearing this, Wildcat tells her "Of course not. Santa doesn't even like bologna!"
  • Emergency Cargo Dump: Baloo defeats Karnage and his Air Pirates by having Rebecca, Kit and Wildcat dump Rebecca's soap flakes from the Sea Duck, causing them to clog up their planes' engines.
  • Episode Title Card: This episode is one of two to feature its own unique title card, the other being "The Ransom of Red Chimp". The title card for this episode depicts Molly staring lovingly at a snowglobe she gets as a Christmas present.
  • Evil Is Petty: When Rebecca tells Karnage that her present is for Molly, Karnage says that if he did that, he would be practically stealing candy canes from a baby, an idea that he rather likes.
  • The Freelance Shame Squad: A rowdy group catches Louie posing as Santa for Molly, taking off his disguise and cackling insanely, completely ignorant of the disillusioned six year old running out of the bar in tears.
  • The Grinch: Don Karnage decides the Air Pirates will show the true spirit of giving; by making others give presents to them.
Karnage: I am not usually this generous, but Christmas comes only once a year.
  • Let There Be Snow: Molly's wish is for it to snow in the tropical harbor of Cape Suzette. Baloo tries to simulate the illusion of snow by dumping Rebecca's soap flakes from the Sea Duck, but stormy weather and an attack from Don Karnage and his Air Pirates compromise that plan.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Rebecca calls Karnage "Don Garbage".
  • Not Where They Thought: Invoked; Baloo gets Louie to disguise his nightclub as Santa's workshop, himself as Santa Claus, and his employees as Santa's elves to trick Molly into thinking she's at the North Pole. For a while, this works, but once Louie's customers end up exposing his ruse, Molly runs out of the club crying.
  • Pig Latin: When Louie, disguised as Santa, comes in through the chimney and sings scat, Baloo tells him "Ix-nay on the ive-jay!"
  • Santa's Existence Clause: Baloo tries to convince Molly that Santa is real by having Louie pose as Santa and his nightclub pose as the North Pole. For a while, this plan works, but Molly begins to lose faith when Louie's customers expose his ruse. At the end of the episode, she believes that Santa is real when it starts to snow.
  • Shout-Out: When Baloo radios Louie that he is about to make it snow for Molly, Louie tells him, "Santa hears you loud and clear, Rudolph!"
  • String-on-Finger Reminder: When Molly breaks her last candy cane, Baloo tries to cheer her up by telling her about the Peppermint Fairy, who leaves new candy canes in place of old ones under childrens' pillows. He ties a string around his finger to help him remember to put a new candy cane under Molly's pillow, but the next morning, he sees the string and realizes he forgot. When he tries to put the new candy cane under Molly's pillow, Molly awakens and accuses Baloo of lying to her.
