Recap / Star vs. the Forces of Evil S3 E21 "Ponymonium"

Go To

Star is thrilled when Ponyhead invites her to dinner with her sisters.

Tropes:

  • Apple of Discord: Pony Head's sisters' plot starts to fall apart when they start arguing over who gets to replace her as heir to the throne.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: According to Pony Head, what Star experiences is a typical family dinner.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: While Lilacia is an obvious diva, her sisters look nice and sympathetic because of how the former treats them, but they turn out to be ruthless.
  • Canon Immigrant: This is the first appearance on the show of Flying Princess Pony Head's sisters, who were first mentioned in Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension.
  • Caught on Tape: Pony Head manages to catch her sisters' plotting against her on her phone's camera.
  • Did Not Think This Through: When the various Ponyhead Princesses are stating how they expected THEY would be the one put on the throne because of the plot, Teta protests that SHE would be a good queen.
Azniss: That makes no sense! You're supposed to be dead!
  • Everyone Has Standards: Star may be a Rebellious Princess who can appreciate good honest craziness, but things like plotting and scheming against another sister every single meal and fighting over who gets to be queen afterwards is just so insane.
  • Frame-Up: Star discovers, to her horror, that Pony Head's sisters are plotting to fake Teta's murder and blame it on Lilacia, thus disqualifying her from being heir to the throne.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Despite her trouble about her sisters, Lilacia is quick to defend them when Star complains about them, much to her confusion.
  • Musicalis Interruptus: Pony Head's sisters look like they're about to introduce themselves in a musical number, but she puts a stop to that in a hurry.
  • Not So Stoic: The normally strait-laced King Pony Head proves to be almost as goofy and childish as his daughters in the privacy of his own home. He also feels rather overwhelmed by his daughters' chaotic behaviour, begging Star to take him away from the castle.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: How Teta plans to assume a new identity: a fake moustache, and a fake California ID under the name "Tony Tonyhead".
  • She Knows Too Much: Once Star learns the other Pony Heads are plotting against the Crown Princess, they can't have her running around with that knowledge. However, Pony Head caught them and recorded it.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Lilacia's sisters plot to frame her for putting her (supposedly disappeared) sister, Teta, "on ice". Star initially thinks it would be fun, until she realizes what they mean. They eventually drop all pretense and strait up say that Teta's supposed to be dead.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Even though they're always plotting against her, Lilacia loves her sisters.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Pony Head's sisters don't exactly work together very well.
  • The Wrongful Heir to the Throne: Pony acts like such a Royal Brat that her own sisters got sick of it and think she's unfit to rule. Unfortunately, at least half of them are just as selfish and arrogant.
