Buff Frog tries to complete an important mission in order to care for his kids.

Tropes:

  • Acrophobic Bird: When the monsters are trapped by a circle of flames, Boo Fly seems to be as helpless as the others, even though he could fly his way up to safety.
  • Being Evil Sucks: Now that Buff Frog is a father, he has to work hard to feed them, but monster work involves Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique that goes against his newfound purpose.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Buff Frog uses his super-jumping abilities to save his fellow monsters from the fire.
  • Call-Back: Star's picture and text from the previous episode motivates Buff Frog to keep going.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: See Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique below.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Buff Frog. The episode follows one of the missions he undertakes in order to keep food on the table for his tadpoles.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: King Butterfly attacks a bunch of monsters for merely trying to steal a few ears of corn.
  • The Easy Way or the Hard Way: While threatening a rat, Buff Frog says "We will do this the easy way and the hard way. Easy for me and hard for you".
  • Everyone Has Standards: The king realizes that he may have gone too far when his fire threatens to burn the monsters alive and leave them no room for escaping.
  • Fantastic Racism: Further explored with the way the Mewmans have a monopoly on crops (especially corn), and leave the monsters to go hungry trying to make a living in the harsh wastelands.
  • Hero Antagonist: King River serves as the antagonist for Buff Frog's story, as he and his fellow monsters are trying to get food, while he's very protective of his corn.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Buff Frog is apparently a legendary Torture Technician, judging from his set of torture devices and the comments of the others, who gather as Buff Frog gets ready to interrogate a rat. However, the rat keeps reminding him of his babies, and he is unable to go through it. He does torture the rat, however... by showing it pictures of the tadpoles.
  • Justified Criminal: The monsters are plotting to steal corn from the fields of the Mewni royal family so they (and in Buff Frog's case, their family) can eat.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Buff Frog saves all of the monsters from King Butterfly's fire.
  • Oh, Crap!: King Butterfly when he realizes he sent too much fire that will burn the monsters alive, only for it to spread out of control.
  • P.O.V. Sequel: The episode takes place at the same time as the previous episode, "Starsitting", showing what Buff Frog was up to while Star babysat the tadpoles.
  • Synchronous Episodes: The episode focuses on Buff Frog going on a job to provide for his tadpoles who he leaves behind in the care of Star and Marco to babysit, which is the focus of the previous episode.
  • Wham Shot: The final shot, showing the rats delivering food for their new master - Ludo.
