Recap / Simple Samosa Episode 5 "Spa Wars"

Go To

Samosa and the gang are relaxing at Amma Spa, Chatpata Nagar's most popular spa, when some people suddenly appear announcing the opening of a new spa right across the street from it, called Appa Spa. The gang goes to investigate and find out the spa, which has very futuristic technology, is attracting the attention of the townsfolk and thus causing a rivalry between it and Amma Spa.

Appa Spa's spamaster, Iddiyappam Appa, reveals himself as he brings along a remote control to control the spa equipment. Samosa grabs the remote and uses it to attack Appa. Appa, in turn, chases after Samosa; the remote eventually gets stuck on Jalebi's head, causing Appa to chase after her. Samosa, Dhokla, and Vada chase after Appa.

Later, as Appa is trying to rip the remote off of Jalebi, Iddiyappam Amma, Amma Spa's spamaster, comes out and sees what's going on. Appa immediately tries to explain that the whole reason he opened the spa in the first place was because he's in love with Amma and wanted to be near her. A flattered Amma returns the affections, and they later get married.

At the wedding, Vada asks Samosa who won the spa war. Samosa comments that it was love that won in the end.

"Spa Wars" contains the following tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Appa and Amma use them while flirting with each other. Appa calls Amma "jujubi" and Amma calls Appa "jinjilu".
  • Boy Meets Girl: This isn't the episode's main plot, but it's implied to be the basis of Appa and Amma's mutual affections for each other. Apparently, they met when they were younger, but they got separated for unknown reasons. Appa searched the world for Amma before finding her spa in Chatpata Nagar and reuniting with her.
  • Cucumber Facial: One of the folks at Appa Spa has cucumber slices placed over his eyes.
  • Handy Remote Control: Appa uses only one remote to control all the spa equipment.
  • Jaw Drop: Dhokla does one when he sees all the futuristic technology in Appa Spa, and Samosa does one when Amma returns Appa's romantic feelings for her.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Both Samosa and Dhokla's jaw drops have the characters' tongues rolling out of their mouths. Both times, another character comments they should put their tongues back in their mouth.
  • Paper People: Appa, after being squashed flat by Samosa, remains flat for a few seconds before inflating himself back to normal.
  • Plot-Sensitive Button: Appa's remote control does different things to the spa equipment (and a bottle of lotion, somehow) each time it's pressed.
  • Popcorn on the Cob: An anthropomorphic corn cob is among the customers at Appa Spa. He enters a tanner and has all his kernels popped into popcorn from the heat.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Upon Appa confessing his love for Amma, the two start to get very romantic and constantly flirt with each other, to the point that Samosa comments that "Yuck! This is like a cheesy movie!"
  • Squashed Flat: Samosa squashes Appa flat using a piece of his spa's equipment.
  • Team Hand-Stack: Samosa, Dhokla, Jalebi, and Vada do this right before they go to Appa Spa.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Amma and Appa pull their halves of the golden heart locket out of their bosoms.
  • Volumetric Mouth: Jalebi gets one as Appa is attacking her trying to retrieve his remote.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Appa created a rivalry between his spa and Amma Spa just to be close to his crush, Amma.
  • Wingding Eyes: Appa's eyes eventually turn into hearts when he sees Amma.
