(DiC Episode: "Talk Radio")

A new radio show is broadcasting listeners' love letters on air, sending flower brooches to the lucky ladies. At the same time, a new sleeping sickness is affecting people, so they don't wake up. It's revealed to be another Dark Kingdom scheme and Usagi investigates when she realizes the Dark Kingdom is exploiting innocent girls.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Sailor Moon had relied on Moon Tiara Action as a Finishing Move so much, she has no answers when she finally confronts an opponent who stops it. Jadeite shuts it down and she's in trouble.
  • Deflector Shields: After stopping Moon Tiara Action, Jadeite throws up a shield to repel Sailor Moon's second attack and knocks her away.
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Motoki is named "Andrew" in the DIC episode. Because the previous episode wasn't part of the dub, this is the first time he appears in this version of the series.
    • The "Midnight Zero" radio program is call the "Love Line".
  • Forgotten Anniversary: In the DiC dub, Kenji notices that his wife has circled the date in the newspaper with red magic marker precisely to avoid this. Luckily, he subverts it by subtly hinting that he plans to take her out to dinner.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Motoki sees Luna wandering around and starts to stroke her, much to her delight. He then asks if she would like some milk, and goes inside to get some. Luna mentions that she can see why Usagi likes him.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Usagi and Luna realize that Midnight Zero is another Dark Kingdom trap. Since Haruna and Naru have been affected, Usagi decides to infiltrate for their sake and stop the plot. She uses the Disguise Pen, strolls in without a problem, and warns everyone on live radio that the brooches are a trap. Then she manages to defeat the youma relatively quickly.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: Both Kenji and Usagi say that a sleeping sickness doesn't sound so bad since it'd give them more time to rest. It's obvious where she gets her Sleepy Head tendencies.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: Luna can't help but purr as Motoki starts stroking her. He then offers her milk, which makes her happier.
  • Oh, Crap!: Usagi's left mouth agape when her Moon Tiara Action attack doesn't work on Jadeite.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Ms. Haruna arrives late for class, tells the kids that they have a free period, and falls asleep. Naru and Umino note that it's very weird and they get worried after the ambulance comes.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: The security guard at the radio station. He refuses to let Usagi inside, but talks with her about how the radio station isn't real and tells her she should be sleeping.
  • Wham Shot: After Sailor Moon defeats the youma, she throws her tiara at Jadeite. He stops it in its tracks, and then curbstomps Sailor Moon. She and Luna go Oh, Crap! on realizing she's in over her head.
  • The Worf Barrage: Sailor Moon uses Moon Tiara Action on Jadeite, who shuts it down like nothing.
  • The Worf Effect: Sailor Moon faces off with Jadeite for the first time, and she's no match for him. Cue Oh, Crap! from both her and Luna.

They say 'love is a many splendored thing', but not today on Sailor Moon. The evil Jadeite and his minions turn the power of love into a dangerous weapon, and only I can stop them! Don't move! I'll be right back!
