Recap / SMG4 - We Don't Talk About Luigi

Go To

Luigi's acting sus and Mario tries to figure out what he's up to... 🤔

Mario notices Luigi acting suspiciously, and subsequently freaks out when he finds Melony's seemingly dead body. Suspecting Luigi of becoming a serial killer, Mario sets out to stop him and avenge his friends' "deaths". But is it really what it looks like?

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Once it becomes clear that Mario thought that Luigi killed Melony and Shroomy, everyone except Mario and Meggy laugh over the misunderstanding.
  • "Be Quiet!" Nudge: Meggy whacks SMG4 hard on the stomach when the latter bluntly informs Mario that they didn't inform him of the flower shop out of fear he'd cause trouble.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Exploited by Mario to catch up to the runaway Luigi. He deliberately calls SMG3 a virgin to trick the latter into pulling a rocket launcher with a huge boot to fire at Mario, enabling him to fly all the way to where Luigi is driving.
  • The Bus Came Back: Karen's kids (or at least Katie and Cory) make their second appearance since "How to Train Your Mario" last year.
  • Call-Back: Luigi's gardening, initially started in the Lawsuit Arc and alluded to in "Video Ends When Everyone Stops Watching", has now grown into a full-blown hobby for Luigi. And in the end, it turns out he was setting up a flower shop with the help of the others.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: The pistol that Mario saw Luigi put in his trunk turns out to be a sprayer, which looks exactly like a pistol for some reason… though Luigi does admit it looks sus.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • SMG4 and Meggy are rather clearly working on something to do with flowers, and try to shoo off Mario when he asks about it. As SMG4 states, they kept quiet about the flower shop to keep Mario from blowing it up with his shenanigans.
    • The Shy Guy pulls out a flower when Mario interrupts Luigi's meeting. As it turns out, the Shy Guys were a flower association that Luigi needed to run his flowers by for approval.
  • Groin Attack: Luigi escapes from Mario’s interrogation by pulling a Piranha Plant named Percy out of his pocket and having him bite Mario in the pingas, while also chewing up his ropes.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Mario isn't kept abreast of Luigi's flower shop due to his Lethally Stupid habits. Unfortunately, this leads him to get all the wrong ideas.
  • Mama Bear: When chasing Luigi through a playground, Mario ignites a flamethrower up through the slide Luigi went up, only to end up burning Cody — prompting Karen to unleash an All-Out Attack on Mario.
  • Mood Whiplash: The episode starts with dark shaky images of the aftermath of Melony’s "murder" and a darkened logo card usually reserved for arcs, before cutting to… Mario approaching the castle while singing an extremely off-key rendition of "Jump Up, Super Star".
  • Not What It Looks Like: The entire episode, in short. Due to finding Melony lying on the floor in what looks like a massive pool of blood and later vanishing, Shroomy sounding like he was murdered, Luigi looking like he's putting a pistol in his cars, digging up holes in his garden, and doing business with some shady looking Shy Guys, Mario thinks that Luigi has turned into a Serial Killer. Turns out Luigi was actually trying to start a flower shop, and Mario was kept out of the loop due to his destructive tendencies.
  • Serial Killer: It looks like Luigi has turned into one, with Mario seeing Melony lying in the floor covered in blood and hearing Shroomy being killed. But at the end of the episode, it turns out this isn't the case. Luigi was setting up a flower shop, with Melony just taking a nap after a Splatoon battle and Shroomy being excited over what Luigi was actually doing and volunteering to help.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Luigi was never out for blood; he was merely setting up his flower shop, and the others were helping him with Mario none the wiser. On top of that, Melony was actually asleep during a fun Splatoon battle between her friends, with her having woken up by the time Mario hurried back to where he originally found her. In fact, the others find the idea that a Nice Guy like Luigi could be a serial killer ridiculous.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Mario finishes the episode in one of these after the insane revelations he's just experienced.
Mario: I don't know what the fuck just happeeeeeeeened!!!
  • Your Head Asplode: Mario's response when he sees Meggy holding a potted plant and hiding it behind her back going "Uhhhh..." with a nervous look on her face. Mario then demands to know "What the hell is going on?!" and then grows his head back after SMG4 tells him to go play in traffic as he's busy.
