Go To

As the tournament gets underway, Joe and Cherry think about how different Adam has become since they knew each other with Cherry hoping he can snap him out of his destructive cycle.

Tropes:

  • Accentuate the Negative: Cherry starts nitpicking Joe for not angling himself at a certain angle which would've made him go 0.3 seconds faster, which soon starts to grate on Miya and Shadow's nerves.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Adam finally tells Cherry the reason he ignored all of his challenges for a beef: he was too boring.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • After losing to Langa, Joe immediately books it up the hill as fast as he can to meet up with Cherry before his race against Adam. When he does, he's not entirely sure what to say, so Cherry helps him settle back into their usual bickering.
    • On Miya and Shadow's end, Shadow asks Miya if he wanted to place a bet on who would win with Miya immediately saying Cherry. Shadow then decides they won't have a bet then.
  • Broken Tears: While Reki is happy Langa won the race, he still breaks down into tears as he's not happy he's not at Langa's side and desperately wants to skate with him, not just cheer for him on the sidelines.
  • Fragile Speedster: Cherry for how fast he is, wasn't prepare for Adam's "Full Swing Kiss" as his face is slammed with Adam's skateboard.
  • Graceful Loser: Although Joe ends up losing to Langa, he takes it very well, even congratulating the other on turning his own skills against him.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: When Adam decks Cherry in the face, Miya shuts his eyes and turns away from the screens.
  • It Was a Gift: Langa is devastated his board is broken and Joe asks why he can't just buy a new one. Langa claims it has to be this one, leading Joe to realize it was because Reki made Langa his board.
  • Kick the Dog: Adam coldly tells Cherry after decking him in the face the reason he didn't want to race against him was because he knew how predictable Cherry was, therefore he was boring. This visibly hurts Cherry as he remembered how he and Joe used "to be special" to Adam back in high school.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Throughout his beef with Cherry, Adam barely taunts him or does his usual theatrics. Even Joe notices this and can't help but get a bad feeling from it. Once Adam decks Cherry in the face, he claims the only reason he never took his or Joe's beefs was because they were boring to him.
  • Reflective Eyes: When Reki screams out Langa's name, Langa looks up to see Reki who is then reflected in his eyes.
  • Say My Name: As Langa passes by Reki, Reki notices how down he's become and immediately screams out his name. Seeing Reki immediately gives Langa a boost as he starts to feel his heartbeat race again.
  • Skewed Priorities: Langa is more focused on trying to find Reki than the fact that he had beat Joe or even paying attention to Adam and Cherry's race.
  • Slow-Motion Pass-By: As Langa is slowly coming down the hill, Reki screams his name as he passes by. Time seems to slow as Langa looks up to see Reki before he quickly passes by.
  • The Stinger: The end of the episode shows Cherry sneaking out of the hospital to visit Joe's restaurant where he soon falls asleep and Joe pours them both a glass of wine.
  • Tap on the Head: Adam decides to end his match against Cherry by jumping off his skateboard, spinning it and slamming it into Cherry's face.
  • Throwing the Fight: Subverted. Langa nearly gives up on his race against Joe and is only brought out of his stupor when he realizes Reki was in fact at S.
  • Title Drop: When Cherry ruminates over their past with Adam, he and Joe both talked about how they "used to be special" to Adam in their teen years and got pulled into "his world".
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The episode focuses more on how Joe and Cherry met Adam in high school with Cherry in particular being really focused on wanting to settle his beef with Adam for "abandoning" them.
