Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 55 Nicktoons Unite

Go To

Lincoln and Rick get caught up in an adventure with heroes from other universes, whether Rick likes it or not...

Rick & Morty episode: N/A

Loud House epiosde: N/A

  • Adaptational Karma: Walker is one of the receiving ends. While he's fighting Danny Phantom, Rick made a trap who captures Walker and Rick puts it inside his jacket pocket. While Danny is unconfortable with this and slightly empathetic to him, Rick indirectly scolds him by making it clear that Walker was a bully asshole who imprisoned anyone for any minor insignificant fraction, or even worse for the simple pleasure of putting them in jail for his own pleasure. Danny ultimately agrees (albeit reluctantly) to the aforementioned cop/prison ghost's preaching, however he was still not comfortable with the situation.

  • Call-Back: Lincoln brings up the "Vindicators" and "Heist" incidents in this chapter, calling them "the worst adventures [he's] ever been on", and asks Rick to keep his attitude in check to avoid this one from becoming something similar.
    • While she and Lynn are talking, Lucy brings up the time when she accidentally clogged the toilet with a Princess Pony book back in Fandom Assimilation.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Tammy asks why the Evil Syndicate would call themselves the "Evil" Syndicate, thinking that they were being ironic. The confused villains simply answer (with no hint of irony) that they named themselves that BECAUSE they're villains.
  • Character Check: The chapter opens with Lynn jogging. She may have sworn off competitive sports, but she still tries to get in some exercise.
  • Crossover: Just like the game it's based on, this chapter involves Rick and Lincoln teaming up with Jimmy Neutron, SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Fenton, and Timmy Turner (plus Cosmo and Wanda).
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Calamitous says he didn't recruit villains like White Diamond and Bill Cipher because they seemed "out of [their] league". When one considers what those two villains, alongside Toffe, Belos and Andrias, were capable of in their own shows, it's not hard to see why.
    • When Tammy recognizes White Diamond's profile, the narration notes that the Galactic Federation stayed away from Homeworld for "good reason".
    • Near the end of the chapter, Plankton gets creeped out ouver Vlad's obsession over Madeline. When Vlad retorts that Plankton married a computer, Plankton angrily retorts that at least Karen actually loves him.
  • Filler: While it does feature Tammy, an overarching antagonist, this chapter is more or less a fun romp with other Nicktoons that doesn't impact the main story too much.
  • Hidden Depths: Rick spots some deeper motivations behind Plankton and Crocker's villainy, which helps him convince them to surrender in the end of the chapter.
    • With Plankton, his desire to take over his world stems from both mistreatment from others (namely Mr. Krabbs) and insecurity over his minuscule size.
    • With Crocker, it's a case of Sunk Cost Fallacy; he realizes that he's been mocked for his obsession with fairies, but feels like he HAS to capture fairies and conquer the world if only to prove his obsession wasn't for nothing.
  • Mythology Gag: SpongeBob invites Lincoln to go kart-racing sometime in the aftermath, with Lucy later expressing interest at the end. This is a reference to how all three have been playable characters in Nickelodeon Kart Racers with Lincoln and Lucy joining from the second game onwards.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: When Rick asks Jimmy Neutron where his Rick is, Jimmy reveals he doesn't have a Rick in his universe. This leads Rick to realize that Jimmy somehow bypassed the Central Finite Curve to summon him and Lincoln to his universe.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • At the start of the chapter, Lynn is perplexed at Lola playing a video game with Lincoln, as she's usually not the kind of girl who would be into them.
    • When Lynn discusses this with Lucy, the latter notes that many of their siblings have been acting differently from how they normally act and wonders if their extreme indulgences in their interests were an unconscious attempt to differentiate themselves from one another.
    • After talking about embracing different things, Lynn and Lucy decide to change outfits; Lucy dressing and acting more girly and Lynn becoming goth. This greatly confounds the rest of the family. However, this a Downplayed Example as this was a one-time thing rather than any permanent change.
  • Token Evil Team Mate: Rick Sanchez fills this tropes to the T with the others Nickelodeon Characters, though is Downplayed Example since for all the adventure he (begrudgingly) behave nicely for Lincoln's happiness since he doesn't want to turn this fun adventure in a bloodier and gorier nighmare. The only questionable things he does are swearing in front of children, speaking a little ill about their friends (Sam Manson and Patrick Star), and capturing Walter in a cube trap and keep it as a prisoner forever, shrugging off Danny's concerns (though since we are talking of Walker, who was a Dirty Cop and the one who causes Danny's Hero with Bad Publicity, is hard feeling sorry for him).
  • Shared Universe: Calamitous says his list of potential recruits (which include White Diamond, Toffee, and Bill Cipher) consisting of villains from Tammy's (and subsequently Rick's) own universe. The Gem Homeworld and Gravity Falls were already mentioned in previous chapters to share the same universe as Rick and the Louds and we've already seen Mewni (Toffee's homeworld) in one of the story's earliest chapters, which implies that both Amphibia and the Bowling Isles exist as separate dimensions parallel to Rick's universe similar to Mewni.
  • Shout-Out: Professor Calamitous's list of potential villains for the Syndicate include White Diamond, Toffe, King Andrias, Emperor Belos, and Bill Cipher.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: While visiting Bikini Bottom, Rick gets hit with dolphin noises when he swears, much to his bewilderment.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: What ultimately defeats the Syndicate's Doomsday Machine? Lincoln unplugging it.
