Recap / Phineas And Ferb Lights Candace Action

Go To

Phineas and Ferb decides to get into the film-making business, and end up directing their sister in a film adaptation of "The Princess Sensibilities".

Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz is being strangely quiet and Perry the Platypus is sent to find out what is going on.

Tropes

  • Adaptation Decay: Ignoring whatever the Princess Sensibilities is supposed to be about, Phineas and Ferb turned it into a monster movie.
  • Amateur Film-Making Plot: The boys attempt to make a film adaptation of Candace's favorite play...which turns into a monster movie, with Candace playing the monster. Thanks to Perry and Doofenshmirtz's subplot, the sneak-preview audience is hit with an "Age-Accelerator-Inator", becoming too old to enjoy the film. However, it still finds its way onto the internet where it's a big success, despite Candace being mortified about the finished product.
  • Ate It All: Doofenshmirtz claims that his Stinky Limburger tastes so good, you won't be able to stop eating it once you try it. Sure enough, when Doofenshmirtz walks away to get some crackers, he's shocked to find Perry having eaten the entire wheel of cheese, which angers Doofenshmirtz greatly and causes him to use the Age-Accelerator-Inator on Perry.
  • Camera Obscurer: Candace does a take of a scene where she's pelted by small rockets, airplanes, and plumbing supplies. Phineas calls it a good take... until he realizes the lens cover was on the camera.
  • Continuity Nod: Olga and Chicago Joe from "Raging Bully" appear as Candace's personal trainers.
  • Description Cut: Doofenshmirtz says that his Stinky Limburger cheese is a family recipe. Cut to a scene of Doofenshmirtz making the cheese, by milking a cow suspended directly above a flaming cauldron.
  • Dramatic Drop: After Doofenshmirtz goes to the kitchen to get Perry some crackers to go with the cheese he made, Doofenshmirtz drops the entire plate when he discovers that Perry ate all of the cheese.
  • Faint in Shock: Candace faints at the end of the episode because she is mortified about the video's success on the internet. Phineas, not looking behind him, says, "Goodnight, Candace."
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: Major Monogram says a variation of this to Perry when briefing him on Doofenshmirtz's (lack of a) new evil scheme.
  • Medium Blending: The finished version of Phineas and Ferb's movie features an appearance by a crudely-animated head-shot of Candace's voice actress, Ashley Tisdale.
  • No One Should Survive That!: After the audience is turned old by the Age-Accelerator-inator, they pass all three kids, but only Candace gets trampled.
  • Rapid Aging: The Age-Accelerator-inator ages anything it hits. It turns people into senior citizens, and fresh cheese to perfectly aged cheese.
  • Record Needle Scratch: One scene shows a slow pan of Candace in her Princess costume; the record scratches when it reveals that she's wearing the head from a monster costume.
  • Recycled Trope: The "Age-Accelerator-Inator" recalls a similar device once build by fellow mad scientist Prof. Norton Nimul. It, too, was used to age milk into fine cheese, and as it happened, Nimnul also built it while he was trying to go straight. Of course, that resolve lasted all of two minutes.
  • Reformed Criminal: The reason Doofenshmirtz's evil activity has ground to a halt? He proclaims that he had quit evil to pursue cheese-making. Of course, it doesn't stick by the end of the episode.
  • There Was a Door:
    • When Perry shoots out of his lair, the camera focuses on a manhole cover. Perry bursts through the concrete right next to it, to his evident annoyance.
    • Then, when Perry breaks Doofenshmirtz's door down, Doof points out that it wasn't even locked and makes Perry pay for the damages.
Doofenshmirtz: What, are you kidding me?! This isn't drywall, you know, it's solid oak!
      (Perry hands Doofenshmirtz extra money)
      Doofenshmirtz: That's more like it.
  • Throw It In!: In-Universe example. During the shooting of a scene, Ferb drops toilets and sinks instead of flower petals, but Phineas decides to keep it.
  • Visible Odor: Lampshaded with Doofenshmirtz's aged cheese that is so stinky, he proclaims "you can actually see the pungent aroma."
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Two of the Fireside Girls were seen watching the movie during its screening test; when the audience gets turned into seniors by the Age Accelerator-inator, the girls are missing.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Doofenshmirtz chews out Perry for breaking his door since it wasn't locked before making him pay for it. He then goes on to call Perry out, saying he can't go breaking everyone's door. Perry actually looks guilty as a result.
