Recap / Peg + Cat S1E33 "The Perfect Ten Problem"

Go To

Ramone is hosting a game show called The Perfect Ten, where everyone wins. Peg, Cat, and the pirates' parrot are judges. The parrot, whose name is revealed to be Parrot, is grumpy and asks how to play the game. Ramone explains that the judges need to score an amount of stars for the performance and that it always has to add to ten. Peg and Cat don't know how to add to ten, but Ramone says that Peg can count on her fingers.

The first act is Richard, Baby Fox, and Littlest Chicken, who are supposed to share what they like to do, but Richard gets sad because he can't remember, Baby Fox just blows a raspberry, and Littlest Chicken also doesn't remember. Then, Richard starts singing a song about how he's very small, but Baby Fox is smaller and Littlest Chicken is smaller still.

Parrot rudely claims the song hurt his ears, and rates the little trio five stars. Thankfully, Peg and Cat also rate them five stars (despite having a very high opinion of the song).

The next act is the pirates singing about how four is the best number of crew members on a pirate crew. Parrot is rude again due to feeling unappreciated (they're jolly without him) and gives them one star, so Peg and Cat give them nine.

The third act is the Pig. Before he performs, a video is shown of the Pig sitting in random locations eating cake. The Pig sings his triangle song and, for a change, Parrot likes it and gives it ten stars. Peg realises that if she and Cat give the Pig even one more star, he'll have eleven, which isn't allowed. The other contestants are nervous at this prospect and the pirates even start to cry.

Peg does her usual routine of "totally freaking out" which leads to the same old backwards count, but this time there is no "Eureka!" Moment. Cat says that it's too bad he has no fingers, which leads to the eureka moment happening after all: his paw pads look like zeroes, so they need to give him zero stars.

Thus, everyone wins, and there's a musical number (no pun intended) about adding to ten.

This episode provides examples of

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: As well as Baby Fox (who wears his bandanna and diaper) and Parrot (who wears his pirate hat), the Pig is shown in the video wearing first a white bandanna, then a crown and necklace, then a space helmet, then Ancient Egyptian accessories, then the bandanna again.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Cat's paw pads are said to look like zeroes. In reality, a cat's paw pads are not round.
  • Big Ball of Violence: After their song, the pirates argue over who's the jolliest, creating a large dust cloud.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Baby Fox blows a raspberry at Ramone, getting spit all over his face. Later, Baby Fox also blows a raspberry at Littlest Chicken and another one at no one in particular.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Cat says, "Big problem" along with Peg, then later a whole crowd does.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": As well as Cat, this episode reveals the parrot's name to be Parrot.
  • Lazy Bum: Pointed out when Ramone says that the Pig can be best described as "lazy, idle, inattentive, and useless".
  • No Biochemical Barriers: Richard, an alien, eats a cookie, and Big Mouth, another alien, eats popcorn.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: A minor one, but Big Mouth is seen eating popcorn when he usually only eats yellow food.
  • Pirate Song: Downplayed for the song the pirates sing, which is about how they're pirates, but it's also about the number four.
  • Sore Loser: Richard, Baby Fox, and the pirates outright cry at the prospect of losing.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • Peg and Cat say, "We've got a big problem!" in unison.
    • When Parrot gives the pirates one star, they say, "One star?!" in unison.
    • Peg and Cat say, "Nine stars!" both at once when they rate the pirates' song.
    • When the problem of the Pig's rating arises, the crowd says, "Really big problem!" at once.
    • When Peg and Cat rate the Pig, they say, "Zero stars!" in unison.
  • Suckiness Is Painful: Parrot claims that Richard's song "hurt [his] ears".
  • You Must Be This Tall to Ride: Referenced when Richard sings that he, Baby Fox, and Littlest Chicken will never be able to ride on certain rides due to their size.
