Go To

Original airdate: 9/20/1997

Full Metal Pullet: The puppies are ordered by Lieutenant Pug to form teams practicing the Bark Brigade march injecting unit cohesion in order for them to get into the Brigade. Lucky and Tripod are made team leaders with four members a team, but Lucky isn't quite keen on having Spot, a chicken who wants to be a dog, be a part of his team.

Dough the Right Thing: The main pups think Cruella left her purse behind at the farm and go to bring it to her (though not before Lucky, Cadpig, and Rolly thought of using it for their own purposes). Unfortunately for them it turns out to have been Anita's purse, and now they have to sneak into her mansion and steal it back.

Tropes for "Full Metal Pullet":

  • An Aesop: Embrace one another's differences and work together utilizing them.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Lucky stands up as he wakes up from his nightmare, realizing he has to apologize to Spot.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Tripod has three other buddies in this episode, consisting of a large puppy named Duke and two other pups. None of them are seen or mentioned after the episode, not even in background appearances.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Lucky is sometimes animated with prominent canine teeth in this episode; this only occurs in a few more episodes before being dropped.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Lucky decides to make it Spot's idea to quit their team by putting more pressure on her to act dog-like, with Pug eventually coming in and mocking her. This causes Spot to snap and stand up to Pug, and quits the team. Unfortunately for Lucky, this makes them short a team member, and disqualifies them from joining the Bark Brigade.
  • Guilt-Induced Nightmare: After Lucky and Pug's harassment causes Spot to quit their team, Lucky has a nightmare about turning into a chicken and Pug laughing at him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Lucky's nightmare makes him realize how badly he treated Spot, and makes amends the next morning.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Lucky has one after Spot quits the team, disqualifying them for the Bark Brigade, where he turns into a chicken and gets mocked by Pug.
  • No Name Given: The other two pups (besides Duke) on Tripod's team were never given names. It's unknown if they officially had any in scripts or storyboards.
  • Picked Last: Spot is the last picked for the teams and Lucky even tries to pick a bucket instead because she is a chicken and the rest are dogs.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Duke, a large, tough looking, muscular puppy, does this out of excitement when Tripod picks him for his team.
  • Shaking the Rump: Lucky and his team do this as part of their cohesion routine.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a shout out to the film Full Metal Jacket.
  • Team Hand-Stack: The main pups (Spot now included) form one with their paws and wings after being accepted into the Bark Brigade.
  • Vocal Evolution: As the episode was one of the first ones recorded, Tripod's voice is slightly higher in this episode only.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Tripod's team members are never seen again after this episode.

Tropes for "Dough the Right Thing":

  • An Aesop: Don't jump to conclusions before acting on a decision.
  • Company Cross References: One of the outfits Horace winds up in while in Cruella's closet is Belle's ballroom dress.
  • Elevator Floor Announcement: A variation: the main pups sneak into Cruella's enormous ride-through closet, which shuttles them along as a prerecorded voice points out the various sections along the way. And the last one listed is "lingerie".
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: Rolly gets stuck trying to get through Scorch's flap in Cruella's door. He manages to get himself unstuck, though.
  • Ironic Echo: Lucky uses the "Finders keepers, losers weepers" excuse when thinking the purse belonged to Cruella with the pups wanting to use it for themselves. When they return it, Cruella notices that it's Anita's purse, and questions returning it before saying the same excuse.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a shout out to the film Do the Right Thing.
