Short Summary

Caught in the Infinite Tsukiyomi, Tsunade comes across a book Jiraiya worked on that reimagines the series storyline.

Tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Obito and Madara are removed from the narrative, with Sasori taking their roles.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Downplayed with Naruto, who comes off slightly more arrogant as the son of a still-acting Hokage.
    • Played Straight with Sasuke, actions now mostly driven by jealousy towards Naruto since his clan is still alive.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Sasori utilizes an army of reanimated puppeteer ninja that each can use his trademark Performance of a Hundred Puppets, the puppets his enslaved minions used being created from the various high class ninja the Akatsuki captured and killed.
  • Alternate Universe: WAY more so than the other dreams. To list a few...
    • Minato and Kushina didn't die when Kurama attacked; during its re-seal, Kushina kept one half of its chakra while the other half was sealed into Naruto. Consequently, Minato and Hiruzen managed to talk the Uchiha clan out of their coup d'etat. Itachi is never forced to join a conspiracy to massacre his family and be the scapegoat while leaving the village. This means both Naruto and Sasuke grew up with their families, but tensions between the Uchiha and the other clans persist despite Minato and Hiruzen trying to quell it.
      • Naruto is spoiled and more naive, unaware of the villagers fearing his Jinchuriki status due to being the acting Hokage's son.
      • Sasuke's reasons for leaving the village are altered. He constantly pushed himself get his father Fugaku's attention until he becomes disillusioned with him while motivated by his jealousy towards Naruto whom he saw to get special treatment. Danzō also arranged Sasuke's meeting with Orochimaru.
    • Obito and Madara, apparently, are dead with Sasori taking their place as the mastermind behind the Akatsuki.
  • Big Bad: Sasori in the second half.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Yahiko's death was arranged by Sasori employing Deidara to arrange a village-destroying explosive to be found by Team Jiraiya, with Nagato assuming the Hidden Leaf were responsible.
    • A, Onoki, and Mei Termi are among Sasori's puppet collection.
    • Itachi dies when he interferes in the fight between Naruto and Sasuke, only to be an Inversion as he survived and nursed himself back to health.
  • Dirty Cop: Sasuke and his police squad, abusing their authority.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Hizashi Hyūga
  • Decomposite Character: Obito's role in the arc is split between Hizashi (wearing his Tobi mask) and Sasori (being the shadow leader of the Akatsuki who engineered Yahiko's death and masterminded events, and taking Kaguya's place as the penultimate enemy.)
  • Dramatic Unmask: Hizashi unmasking himself, shocking everyone who knew he died years ago.
  • Evil Overlooker: Downplayed with Hizashi, whose actions were to carry out a Secret Test of Character, having no actual malice towards the Hidden Leaf.
  • Greaterscope Villain: Orochimaru, Danzō, and Sasori in the first half, Orochimaru having reanimated Hizashi as pair of his deal with Danzō though he left Hizashi to Sasori. Sasori exploits Hizashi as his Man In Front Of The Man to engineer the Akatsuki's formation.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: As an reanimated ninja, Hizashi cannot die or break the Reanimation Jutsu on his own. It was only once he meets Neji and sees the man he grew into that he is able to pass on.
  • Never My Fault: Sasuke fuses to acknowledge that his father removed him from the police force because of his conduct.
  • Punchclock Villains: Downplayed with Team Jiraiya and Subverted with Hidan, Kakuzu, and Sasori, both groups hired by Hizashi to test the Hidden Leaf to see if his death made any positive effect on its infrastructure.
  • Secret Test of Character: Hizashi's goal to test the Hidden Leaf gennin if they are not corrupted by the ways of the old generation.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Nagato, Konan, Jiraiya, Neji, and Itachi all survive.
  • Villain Has a Point: While Hizashi insists that he made his peace and severed all ties, Orochimaru explains it not to be case due to the nature of the Reanimation Jutsu to bring back those still with attachments to the living world.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Hizashi Hyūga, seeking to change the infrastructure of the Hidden Leaf and the rest of the world.
