Recap / Kaeloo S 1 E 11 Lets Play Happy Rotter

Go To

The main four read Happy Rotter, a parody of Harry Potter, and do a role-playing game based on it.

"Let's Play Happy Rotter" contains the following tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: In the French dub, Stumpy says Kaeloo can't play Happy Rotter because Happy is a boy and Kaeloo is... a frog.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Quack Quack goes into Troubled Fetal Position any time the main character's parents' death is mentionednote . Later in the episode, Kaeloo transforms and needs to beat up Mr. Cat, but he makes himself look just like Quack Quack using a magic spell so she won't know who to beat up. She mentions the parents' death and the real Quack Quack assumes Troubled Fetal Position.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • In the English dub, Stumpy tells Kaeloo that she can't play Happy Rotter since Happy is a boy and she is a "frog girl". Kaeloo says that Stumpy is a squirrel and not a human, missing the point he was trying to make that she is a girl.
    • In the beginning of the episode, Kaeloo, Stumpy, and Quack Quack see a documentary about crepidula. When one of them changes sex to mate, Kaeloo, shocked by the inappropriate material, transforms and destroys the television. Stumpy thinks Kaeloo must hate crepidula for some reason.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Kaeloo, Stumpy and Quack Quack switch bodies due to using magic spells on each other, but are soon brought back to normal. Unlike most examples, it is not the main focus of the episode, but only happens for one scene.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Kaeloo says "aw, poopypants!" when she realizes that she screwed up.
  • Head-Tiltingly Kinky: Minor example. Kaeloo, Stumpy and Quack Quack watch a documentary on crepidula, and when one of the crepidula changes sex to mate, they tilt their heads to one side.
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: Stumpy says the wrong magic spell and shrinks himself.
  • Invisible Jerkass: An invisible Mr. Cat beats Kaeloo up.
  • Literal Asskicking: Mr. Cat kicks Kaeloo's butt several times while he's invisible.
  • Parody Magic Spell: Subverted. Kaeloo says that there are lots of spells ending in "us" and "or", but they turn out to be legitimate-sounding magic spells instead of English words with suffixes.
  • Parody Names: The Happy Rotter series is chock-full of them The main character a young wizard named Happy Rotter (Harry Potter) and his friends "Red" (Ron) and "Morpione"note  (Hermione) who go to a wizard school and face off against the evil dark wizard "Voldemob" (Voldemort), who murdered Happy's parents when he was a baby.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Quack Quack assumes this position and starts rocking back and forth whenever somebody mentions the death of Happy Rotter's parents.
