Go To

Kaeloo starts a TV news channel. Mr. Cat shows her how it's done.

"Let's Play TV News" contains the following tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: When the gang are discussing what a TV news channel needs, Mr. Cat suggests "blood, pathos, suffering... and a blonde".
  • Attention Whore: Mr. Cat is even willing to get beaten up by Bad Kaeloo if it means he gets the chance to be on television.
  • Downer Ending: The episode ends with Kaeloo sitting alone and sighing miserably while the others have fun.
  • Enfant Terrible: The episode begins with Stumpy, Quack Quack, and Mr. Cat watching a TV show about a deadly virus, a comet that could wipe out humanity altogether, and terrorism. Mr. Cat, clearly enjoying the idea of each of those things, smiles and gives it a thumbs up.
  • If It Bleeds, It Leads: Invoked. The main four want to start a news station, but since nothing interesting is happening, Mr. Cat deliberately instigates several violent incidents, including one with himself as the victim, and reports on these incidents on TV. The audience loves it.
  • Literal-Minded: Mr. Cat tells Stumpy to "hit him with the news". Stumpy throws the newspaper in his face.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Kaelo's reaction to Mr. Cat's machine hurting Quack Quack strongly suggests that this is not the first gadget he's made with those intentions.note
Kaeloo: Mr. Cat, if this is another one of your mean-spirited, two-bit inventions...
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Mr. Cat comes across the normally enthusiastic Kaeloo crying by herself, he makes an attempt to cheer her up.
  • Prehensile Tail: Mr. Cat holds up one of his signboards using his tail.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Kaeloo is disappointed to learn that people will prefer violent news content over joy-inducing content; in a misguided attempt to console her, Mr. Cat tells her that that's just the way people are and nothing she does or says will ever change their minds.
  • Sweeping Ashes: Quack Quack is reduced to a pile of ash when the viewers press 2.
  • Techno Babble: Mr. Cat does this while explaining his latest invention to Kaeloo and Stumpy. Of course, they don't understand, so he shows them a demonstration.
  • Tempting Fate: When Mr. Cat sees Kaeloo crying alone and tries to comfort her, she tells him that she needs to be alone. Just then, Stumpy and Quack Quack run up and join them.
