Finally, The Magic Bag is Mine! is a 1960 Felix the Cat cartoon and the 39th episode of the Felix the Cat (Joe Oriolo) series.
Felix is sitting around playing with a yo-yo, wishing he could find a job that let him cheer people up. Felix buys a newspaper ad from a man nearby, and sees an ad asking for an intelligent boy to be hired as a companion to an elderly gentleman named Mr. Goodley. As Felix walks off to apply for the job, the newspaper salesman removes his disguise, revealing himself to be Professor up to his old tricks again. Professor hastily constructs a house ahead of Felix. Felix answers the doorbell, and goes inside, with Professor disguising himself as a wheelchair bound old man. Felix sets his Magic Bag down nearby, failing to notice a trapdoor opening, sending the bag falling into a lab below the house. The bag is then hit with a beam that causes multiple Magic Bags to spawn from it. Felix, in an attempt to apply for the job, tries to show Mr. Goodley his Magic Bag, but realizes it's gone. Just then, a robot emerges from the wall and pushes the old man into a door, which snaps shut before Felix can get inside. Felix looks around and discovers the trap door, and drops into the lab, discovering the multiple Magic Bags laying around. Felix tries to find out which one is the right bag, but to no avail. Felix moves on, and seemingly finds Mr. Goodley, only to find out its a dummy in his place. Just then, the robot from earlier emerges and grabs Felix, dragging him outside and throwing him out of the house. The robot then reveals itself to be Professor in yet another disguise, who believes that Felix won't be coming back for his bag of tricks. Meanwhile, Felix goes to a police officer for help, but when they arrive at the scene of the crime, the house is completely gone. The cop is annoyed and shoos Felix off, while the cat tries to figure out what's going on. The cop walks off, and then reveals himself to be Professor in yet another disguise, laughing at how he's succeeding in confusing Felix. Felix investigates the spot where the house was, just in time to see the house rise up from behind him. Felix rushes inside, but is quickly lassoed by Professor, who traps him in a crate that he ties up, nails down and locks up. Professor then pulls a lever that causes Felix to start shrinking inside of the box.
Professor mocks Felix's predicament by peeping at him through a hole in the crate, and is happy that his Fly-Making Machine is a success. Professor runs off to get a flyswatter to crush Felix. Felix wonders how he can escape, and notices a string conveniently hanging nearby. He climbs up it, and finds a laughing gas machine nearby. Professor arrives with the flyswatter, but realizes he's gone, just as Felix turns on the Laughing Gas machine. Professor starts laughing like crazy, but Felix unwittingly ends up getting affected by it as well. Professor manages to regain his composure for a moment and shuts off the gas, and wonders where Felix is. Felix hops on his flyswatter as he walks off. Professor grabs some flypaper and puts it on the swatter, with Felix hiding behind it. Felix then kicks the flypaper onto Professor's face and hightails it. Professor yanks it off, wondering what happened. Felix then sneaks up to Professor's ear, telling him to check and see if the Magic Bag is okay. Professor inspects the Magic Bags, but keeps getting beat up by all the fake ones. Professor manages to find the real one and carries it off. Felix sees a hole in the bag and hops inside of it. Professor opens the bag to see what's inside, only for Felix to pop out back to his normal size. Felix grabs his bag and runs for it as Professor gives chase. Felix then turns his bag into a helicopter and flies away. Exasperated, Professor turns on the laughing gas to calm himself down. While flying away, Felix remarks "Always leave 'em laughing!" and laughs as the cartoon irises out.
Tropes:
- Deranged Animation: Being an episode thats animated by Jim Tyer, the animation is just as weird as the story itself.
- Extendo Boxing Glove: One of the fake Magic Bags uses one on Felix when he tries to use it.
- Glad I Thought of It: Professor says this when Felix whispers to check on the Magic Bag into his ear.
- Have a Gay Old Time: When Felix goes to a police officer for help, he tells him "There's something queer going on at 88 Dead End Street!"
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Felix tries to use laughing gas to get the upper hand over Professor, but he didn't count on it affecting him as well.
- Incredible Shrinking Man: Professor uses a rigged crate called the Fly-Making Machine to shrink Felix down to pint size.
- Not-So-Harmless Villain: This is one of a few episodes where Professor gets his act together and manages to keep Felix on the ropes throughout it by using his brains, at least in the first half of the episode.
- Offscreen Teleportation: Professor is somehow able to make his way all the way from the house to the corner of a street where Felix is to disguise himself as a police officer.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Averted; unlike his other disguises, Professor uses a chain of surprisingly convincing disguises in his episode.
- Stock Footage: The Scooby-Dooby Doors scene from "Felix The Cat Suit" is reused late in the episode.
- Tin-Can Robot: Subverted; Professor seemingly uses a Tin Man-esque robot as a henchman, but then it turns out Professor is using it as another disguise for some reason.
