Recap / Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: The Fog Car Pt 1

Go To

It's night-time in Alola. Mallow is in her bedroom after the party, having apologized to Lillie for snapping at her and swapping stories of her stay in the Infinity Train. But just before she can close her eyes, she gets an unexpected phone call from Chloe in regards to Tuba.

Parker is in the Calla Rehabilitation Center with Molly visiting him. They discuss Parker's fears of not fitting in with the others and the extent of his powers and what would happen if Goh got on the Train.

Meanwhile, Ash is getting Goh interested in Pokémon again, showing off all of the Pokémon he found throughout his journeys — especially the Legendaries — and then take the two to the Safari Zone. Goh gets into the swing of things and catches many new Pokémon and even Ash gets a chance when a swarm of Scyther accidentally blows his Safari Ball into a Chansey...a shiny one at that.

As Ash and Goh leave the Safari Zone, Ash gets a call from Mallow who is hysterical over the idea of Tuba dying to the Apex. Ash can only calm her down and tell her she must live happily as per Tuba's requests. This has Goh ask what's going on with Chloe and he feels ashamed on how he dismissed how weak she was. Just in time for Chloe to email them about her now entering Silent Hill...

And Chloe has met up with Hop, who is happy to see Miss Chloe in the flesh. Chloe uses her cloak's ability to find out what's going on with Hop and is highly worried at what she finds.

Trip is making cookies with Serena with little success. But he's going to try until every cookie is ready.

Back in the Fog Car, Hop introduces the Quarto to Walter and Henry, who take them to the patio where Grace, Simon, Hazel and Tuba are already seated. Tensions are high as Alex serves everyone soup and Alain/Dreams and Paul/Despair are introduced. Simon is annoyed that there are still no signs of Sean or the Apex to which Amelia snarks that the Apex is extremely gullible. It isn't until Simon mocks the construction of the Unfinished Car that Amelia reveals the truth to him and Grace...She's the Conductor that they worship so dearly.

Tropes found in this chapter include:

  • All for Nothing: Parker confirms that his 'nightmare therapy' was well and truly pointless when he recounts how he watched multiple futures where he'd never summoned the Unown, and in all except one extreme case, Goh cooled down before he did anything unforgivable and started making progress with Ash since there was no 'UnChloe' to distract anyone.
  • Bad Future: In the sole one Parker saw, Goh just snaps after Ash’s loss to Bea and sends a very nasty email to Delia, presumably trying to out Ash’s relationship with Trip. Delia is outraged and goes to to the professor about it, getting him fired. After his Pokemon and Ash servers ties with him, the Train finally comes for Goh....Only for Chloe to find his corpse a week later after she returns.
  • Big Brother Worship: Hop may have this towards Chloe, as when she looks into his mind, she finds him punching out Apex posters with a doughnut holer.
  • Born Lucky: Ash somehow catches a Chansey when his Safari Ball gets blown away...and not just a Chansey but a shiny Chansey.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Simon gets pretty lippy around Chloe, Henry and Walter, with Grace trying frantically to keep him from angering them.
  • The Cameo: Misty appears to read a message about Ash getting a shiny Chansey.
  • Children Are Innocent: Very much so with Hazel: While Amelia and Chloe are noticing how bad Alain looks while stuck in a perpetual daze of hynposis, Hazel just giggles about how funny his eyes look. And when Walter tells Hazel that a ritual is like a big party with lots of children and she will love it, she’s clearly excited.
  • Curse Cut Short: Simon nearly calls Chloe a bitch before Grace shuts him up.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Amelia's reaction to see Alain is to liken it to him spending time with a hookah-smoking caterpillar and asks Chloe if Silent Hill hosts a detox facility.
  • Epic Fail: Trip somehow fails to make a heart-shaped cookie with a cookie cutter.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Red Lotus Quarto are cringing at how Walter has Paul like a tamed animal.
  • Internal Reveal: Grace and Simon learn that Amelia is the Conductor that they worship.
  • Jump Scare: When Chloe pesters Hop with too many questions, he just shouts "ENOUGH QUESTIONS!" and the mist turns into a swarm of smiley faces for a second.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Ash makes this face when he reads Chloe's email and learning that she's reached Silent Hill.
    • Chloe's reaction upon seeing Hop's memories and learning many things: from Alain and Paul also trapped in there to noticing how Hop's mental state has deteriorated to him mixing up Ash and Bede.
    • Walter has a slight one when he notices Lady Destiny is no longer wearing white.
    • Grace’s reaction when she hears about the ritual and an even bigger one when Amelia uses her voice modulator to sound like The Conductor.
  • Only Sane Man: Grace is clearly this out of the Apex: She knows she is in a bad place, and it is not wise to do anything foolish. So she tries to be civil with Henry, Walter and the Red Lotus Quarto while desperately trying to keep Simon in check.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Very fitting that the song Hop sings is "Following the Leader" from Peter Pan, the tale about a boy who never grows up.
  • Side Bet: Apparently Ash and Misty had a bet that Misty would get him a bike if he ever caught thirty Chansey. While Ash doesn't catch thirty, he does catch one that is shiny so he has no idea if it counts for winning the bet.
  • Spit Take: Zeno spits out a smoothie he's drinking when he sees that Ash somehow caught a shiny Chansey. Then it cuts to a scene where Misty does the same thing with an energy drink.
  • Take That!: One to the idea of Ash trading his extra Tauros after Ash catches a Rhyhorn. Apparently Professor Oak has an annoying Intern who thinks Ash should do that and Ash is very much not interested.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Simon immediately calls Chloe a princess. Chloe replies by snapping her fingers to ignite some candles in front of him, causing Simon to shriek in terror.
