Tropes

  • Almost Dead Guy: The team encounters one in the sewers of the ship. He warns them of the ship's true nature and that they drain people for power before he dies.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: In his dream world, Gary is married to an anthropomorphic female cookie, and they have two anthropomorphic cookies as children.
  • The Bus Came Back: Tribore is confirmed to have survived the events of the season 1 finale and became one of the victims of the mass draining.
  • Crapsaccharine World: The Happy Place seems perfect, but it is killing people to act as a power plant.
  • Dance Battler: In his dream world, Gary is an action hero who specializes in this.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Todd tries to kill Gary's crew in front of him out of spite for the lost his family in Earth's destruction he blames Gary for.
  • Foreshadowing: There are hints that Hushfluffles, the leader of the Happy Place is not what he appears to be. For example:
    • He is colored red, unlike the other aliens that are purple, because it's actually a Goofy Suit.
    • His face is permanently frozen with a smile and unblinking eyes. That's because it's actually a mask, and he is a human named Todd underneath.
    • He also knows Gary's name when he selects him. That's because he learned about Gary while Earth was being destroyed.
  • Groin Attack: Gary does this to the evil overlord in his happy place.
  • Human Resources: And any other living being that ends up trapped in The Happy Place; while they are kept in a Lotus-Eater Machine, they are drained of their life as fuel.
  • The Load: HUE has to be carried to safety by KVN of all people during their escape out of the Happy Place as his robot body is too slow.
HUE: This puts the "HUE" in HUE-miliation. Ooh.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: All victims of The Happy Place are put in one, where they get to live out their ultimate fantasy while the machine drains them of their life as fuel for the ship. They die when their happiness runs out.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: The alien that Clarence almost sells the Happy Place ship to has dozens of arms in the weirdest of places (even one up his ass, which is his personal favorite).
  • Misplaced Retribution: Todd against Gary for the death of his family even though Gary in no way could prevent the Earth's destruction.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The purple aliens' eyes begin to glow red when they reveal their true nature.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Clarence tries to pull a scam of selling The Happy Place. When the buyer commences a handshake to confirm the purchase, Clarence must shake all of the buyers hands to make it official. When he sees the last hand in an "unexpected place", he decides to bail on the deal all together, especially when The Happy Place commences a Self-Destruct sequence which prompts him to escape with the rest of the crew.
  • Toilet Humor: The episode has a long sequence of essentially every character, except Nightfall and arguably Ash, in the Crimson Light pissing on each other and around them in order to mark territory.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Clarence has this reaction when a potential buyer of The Happy Place wants him to shake his hand that comes out of his rectum.
