Season 8, Episode 11

A third party interrupts the battle between Madison and Troy’s groups.

  • Armor-Piercing Response: Tracy begs for Madison to spare Troy by citing Alicia’s doctrine of second chances and helping people, but Madison shuts her down by pointing to Alicia’s prosthetic arm and reminding her how he killed her.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Ben/"Crane" returns to threaten both Madison and Troy’s groups.
    • Big Bad Wannabe: He does a pretty terrible job at it, though. His men easily get killed and he gets quickly killed by a handful of walkers.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Daniel and Luciana rescue Madison and Troy from Crane.
  • The Bus Came Back: Ben returns for the first time since "All I See Is Red."
  • Chained Heat: Crane handcuffs Madison and Troy to each other, forcing them to work together to escape.
  • Continuity Nod: Tracy watches Alicia’s tape left in the MRAP.
  • Enemy Mine: Troy is forced to work alongside Madison and her people once Crane returns to threaten him and Tracy.
  • Evil All Along: Crane seemed to reform after the loss of Shrike but turns out to still be just as much of an evil despot as before.
  • Grand Finale: This episode and the following one were aired together as the two-part series finale of Fear the Walking Dead. The franchise will continue with The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live as well as future seasons of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City.
  • Hypocrite: Crane mocks Troy and Madison for wanting to protect their loved ones since it goes against PADRE’s ghoulish ways, yet he wants to kill Madison for supposedly letting his sister get killed.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: After his truck crashes, Troy’s shoulder is impaled with a tree branch.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Strand points out this trope to Madison, insisting there’s always "one more thing" to do.
  • Karmic Death: Ben/"Crane" also ends up eaten by walkers just like his sister and father.
  • Killed Off for Real: After surviving his apparent death seasons ago, Troy is killed for real this time by Madison who makes sure to finish the job.
  • Love Is a Weakness: Troy blamed Alicia for inspiring Serena to help people in need since it ultimately got her killed by a man who betrayed and robbed her; and vowed to kill Alicia in revenge for supposedly poisoning her with altruism.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Troy vowed revenge on Alicia for convincing Serena to help people since she was killed by a hostile man she tried to help. Then Crane holds Madison responsible for Shrike’s death, evidently unaware that Shrike let herself get bitten and killed.
  • Motive Rant: Crane goes on one while taunting Madison and Troy in what he thinks are their final moments, insisting that his ways of doffing family connections is the right way to live.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Troy says as much about himself and Madison.
  • The Remnant: Crane shows up leading a handful of his remaining followers who still hold to PADRE's tyrannical way of doing things. His inept handling of the situation soon gets them all killed.
  • The Reveal:
    • Serena Otto was Troy’s late wife and was bitten while pregnant, but was saved via amputation by Alicia. Serena was later killed by a hostile survivor, and Troy holds Alicia responsible for her death.
    • Shrike and Crane were the ones who rescued Madison from the stadium.
    • The episode ends with Troy revealing that Tracy is Alicia's daughter he adopted.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Crane had a perfect opportunity to just shoot Madison and Troy in the back as they fled across the rope bridge, but instead cuts the bridge to drop them into a walker-filled bog in order to watch them either slowly drown or get eaten. Not only does this leave them time to drag themselves out to safety, but taking the time to mock their situation distracts him long enough to get overwhelmed and eaten himself.
  • Your Head A-Splode: The MRAP runs over a walker’s head.
  • Zerg Rush: Once again, Troy rallies up a horde to attack his enemies with.
