What If Spider-Man 4 Happened?
It's one of the great unanswered questions in superhero movie history. What if Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 wasn’t canceled? There are many details out there about what Tobey Maguire and company had in store for us in the planned 2011 installment.
This Fanscription contains examples of:
- Adaptational Origin Connection: Felicia Hardy's father, Walter, was Adrian Toomes' partner, and the former's murder at the latter's hands is what drove her to becoming Black Cat.
- Adaptational Villainy: In the comics, Adrian Toomes' descent into villainy as the Vulture was due to him getting financially screwed over by his business partner, who had been embezzling funds from the company they started together and left Toomes with nothing. This version of Toomes, on the other hand, is a Corrupt Corporate Executive obsessed with maintaining his youth and is willing to abduct, experiment on, and kill countless innocent people to perfect his youth serum, including his business partner Walter Hardy when he came to learn of Toomes' true nature.
- Comic-Book Fantasy Casting:
- Bruce Campbell as Mysterio.
- Cillian Murphy as Arthur Avis/young Adrian Toomes.
- Max von Sydow as Adrian Toomes/Vulture.
- David Tennant as Miles Warren.
- Betty Gilpin as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat.
- Nicholas Hammond as old Peter Parker.
- Frame-Up: Toomes has Curt Conners framed for the murder of Miles Warren, intending to blackmail him in order to continue Warren's research on the serum.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Toomes makes a second attempt to drain Spider-Man's youth, only for the "defensive component" in the anti-serum injected into Peter to make Toomes start rapidly ageing until the Vulture suit falls backwards with nothing left but ashes.
- Leitmotif: The Vulture is heavily associated with Swan Lake, presumably due to similar motifs of birds and transformation.
- Sequel Episode: Takes place in the same continuity as What If Venom Wasn't In Spider Man 3?.
- Sequel Hook: The end has Miles Warren moving into Peter's old apartment.
