We can't fight hate with hate or violence with violence.

A rabbi's student uses a golem to fight back against a group of thugs (one of whom turns out to be Garrett's old friend) who have been vandalizing the synagogue at night.

This episode has the following tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: After one of the punks mockingly thanks him, Roland slams him against a vehicle and is about to beat him to a pulp for the trouble they caused until he musters the inner strength to stop himself.
  • Big Bad Friend: Spencer, an old friend of Garrett's, is revealed to be the ringleader of the vandals who attack the synagogue.
  • Evil Former Friend: Spencer to Garrett.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The rabbi's student only wants the golem to deter vandals from the synagogue. Presumably, he is not aware about state of the golem's victims until after the Ghostbusters tell him, and apologizes for everything.
  • Golem: A golem is brought to life by the rabbi's student to fight off the antisemitic vandals via putting an ancient scroll in the mouth of a clay statue, but he's not able to truly control it.
  • Hate Sink: Spencer and his gang of racist/antisemitic vandals have no redeeming feature.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Garrett and Roland smash the Golem by the legs after he is baked from the hot vats. The attack along with Kylie's cause the Golem to fall into pieces. The Golem then quickly tries reforming itself, and it's only when Kylie removes the scroll from its mouth that it ceases to exist.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: In the end, the rabbi destroys the scroll so that no one can use its powers to make a new Golem.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Spencer and his buddies. Roland, who is Black, notes that they "don't like my kind". Plus, they terrorize a Jewish community.
  • Red Herring: The Ghostbusters initially suspect the rabbi to be the Golem's master, since he has motive for wanting the vandals out of the picture. However, it's revealed that he actually didn't know that the Golem isn't just a myth — his student is the one responsible.
  • Save the Villain: What the Ghostbusters indirectly do when trying to stop the Golem, which has put the thugs in suspended animation and encased them in mud cocoons. Once the thugs come back to life after the golem's destruction, they are promptly arrested.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: The moment the vandals are free from the clay cocoons the golem imprisoned them in, they find themselves in a hospital room with officers ready handcuff them, much to their dismay. Still, going to jail a far better option than their alternative.
  • True Companions: At the end, Garrett tells Spencer that his real friends are the Ghostbusters, not him.
    Spencer: Thanks, G-Man.
Garrett: Don't call me "G-Man". Only my friends call me that.
