Two-part episode. Years after the end of The Real Ghostbusters, lack of supernatural activity has put the Ghostbusters out of business and Dr. Egon Spengler, who still lives in the firehouse to monitor the containment unit, is now a paranormal studies professor at a local city college. However, when Achira, a disease-spreading entity, is released by subway workers, Egon recruits the only four college students who signed up for his class: Kylie Griffin (an orphaned Goth girl and occult expert), Eduardo Rivera (a lazy and sarcastic Latino slacker), Roland Jackson (a Black and Nerdy tech genius), and Garrett Miller (a wheelchair-bound jock).

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Ascended Fanboy: Garrett is a huge fan of the old team, while Kylie looks up to Egon in particular. Roland is very interested in the Ecto-1 and the other technology.
  • Body Horror: Achira leaves hideous boils on her victims. In actuality, the boils are her offspring who will come forth if she desires.
  • Brick Joke: In Part 1, Slimer helped himself to Garrett's candy bar. In Part 2, he tries again, until Garrett threatens to put him in the Containment Unit.
  • Cassandra Truth: Egon tries to warn the public about the new ghost threat, but his warnings are ignored.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Janine tells Ego she likes to think that their relationship was more than her just being the original team's receptionist. Egon says she's absolutely right and credits her for doing the accounting and collections.
  • Crossing The Streams: This little conversation:
Egon: Whatever you do, don't cross the streams.
    Eduardo: Why? Another electric shock?
    Egon: No. Nuclear explosion.
    Eduardo: [makes Oh, Crap! face]
  • Demonic Possession: Kylie becomes the new host for Achira after she foolishly attracts her by using the Ghost Beacon.
  • The End... Or Is It?: Achira is busted, but the episode ends with a horde of new ghosts escaping her tomb and spreading throughout the city.
  • Fighting from the Inside: When Achira prepares to infect Egon, Kylie briefly reemerges and desperately tries to fight the possession. Achira is more powerful, though, and Kylie's spirit is quickly subsumed.
  • Foreshadowing: Kylie makes a joke that she's a ghost. Later, she becomes possessed by Achira.
  • Godzilla Threshold: When Janine questions sending out a bunch of inexperienced kids to bust a nasty ghost, Egon points out they don't have any other options.
  • Honey Trap: Kylie/Achira tries to seduce Eduardo so that she could infect him. Roland and Garrett manage to stop it.
  • It's Personal: After being freed from Achira, Kylie remembers that she posed as her Grandma Rose to capture her. She doesn't look too happy about it and the only thing that can make her better is getting Achira's ectoplasmic hide.
  • I Work Alone: Egon acknowledges that going solo is a bad idea. This ends up causing him to be incapacitated throughout the entire episode.
Egon: I'm breaking the first rule of Ghostbusting: Never go solo.
  • Jumped at the Call: Roland and Garrett over filling in for Egon.
  • Kick the Dog: After Achira/Kylie infects dozens of sub-way passengers, she approaches a scared blind man, comforting him before infecting him too.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: The end of the episode show a miriad of ghosts flowing out and spreading throughout the city. Well at least now this gives an excuse for the Ghostbusters to get back into business.
  • Lock-and-Load Montage: The new Ghostbusters rebuilding and upgrading the Ghostbusters' equipment and prepping themselves for battle.
  • Never Heard That One Before: Downplayed When Eduardo, sore over sticking his foot in his mouth and insulting the attractive girl in class and Garrett ribbing him by quoting the aforementioned trope, makes a tasteless remark about him "having a working foot to insert", Garrett's only response is an eye roll that screams this trope.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Achira beginning to spread her power all over the city wouldn't have happened if Kylie hadn't taken the Ghost beacon.
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: Eduardo was content to bail out on the whole thing, until Garrett suggested he check out the daisies at the flower show.
  • Oh, Crap!: Slimer when the old PKE Meters suddenly start picking up activity.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Garrett humorously says this after seeing Eduardo make a fool of himself by accidentally mocking the idea of ghosts near a cute girl (Kylie) who likes ghosts.
  • Person as Verb: "You were doing the Linda Blair bit."
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The prison that kept Achira and hundreds of other ghosts.
  • So Last Season: The old proton packs prove ineffective against Achira, forcing a series of upgrades.
  • Take That!: "Jackie Chan's for wimps and people from Long Island."
  • Tempting Fate: The episode ends with Roland expressing relief that the ghost threat is over. However, Egon thinks differently. Suddenly, back at Achira's tomb, hundreds of ghosts pour out from it.
  • Understatement: While Janine is working, the phone starts ringing off the hook asking for the Ghostbusters.
    Janine: I think we're back.
