Recap / Dragons The Nine Realms S 2 E 3 Undead Dragons Of The Undead

Go To

The Dragon Club encounters a pack of Featherhides that appear to be zombified.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Badass in Distress: Feathers is dragged off by the Featherhide pack and trapped in a crystal formation for most of the episode.
  • Dracolich: Subverted. Jun assumed that the Featherhides were undead thanks to their off-colored appearance and aggressive behavior, but they turn out to have a mundane explanation for being that way.
  • Hologram: Alex surprises her fellow riders and their dragons with a flawless holographic duplicate of herself. She plans to use it to do her presentation for their class so she doesn't have to stand in front of a crowd.
  • Large and in Charge: The Featherhide pack is led by a Titan Wing, which is also molting. It takes the rest of the pack, plus Feathers, to blast the old scales off of it.
  • Ninja Log: Alex manages to replace herself with her holographic avatar while the Titan Wing is cornering her.
  • Not a Zombie: The Featherhides weren't undead, they were just molting, hence the pale scales and glossy eyes. As soon as their old skins flake off, they go back to normal.
  • See the Invisible: The infrared on Alex's tablet lets her see the cloaked Featherhides, which register colder than Feathers does.
  • Sequential Symptom Syndrome: D'Angelo asks Jun if hypothetically, someone was bitten by the undead, what would be the signs? Jun lists fever sweat, dizziness, and ghastly moaning, all of which D'Angelo does in sequence.
  • Takes One to Kill One: Only another Featherhide's Super-Scream will flake off a molting Featherhide's old skin, but the Featherhide pack is too crazed to remember this.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: Jun demonstrates a new trick she taught Wu and Wei, having Wu blast out a ring of ice around them and then have Wei superheat it to the point where it causes a blast of steam to knock opponents away. She calls it "Circle of Protection".
  • Zombie Infectee: Subverted. D'Angelo assumes that because a Featherhide bit him, he's becoming a zombie too. He starts copying the strange behaviors that the Featherhides are doing, convincing him even more. He eventually confesses and ties himself to Plowhorn's horn to prevent himself from hurting the others, then the truth comes out, and his limbs have fallen asleep.

Circle of Protection

Jun came up with a defensive technique for Wu & Wei, using Wu's freeze breath to make a ring of ice around them and Wei's fire breath to superheat the top layer of said ice into a blast of steam.
