Recap / Daria S 4 E 06

Go To

While going to the store to get toilet paper for Jake (who spends the entire episode sitting on the toilet reading a teen magazine), Daria gets lost in the homecoming parade, where she meets several people from past episodes.

Tropes:

  • Animal Testing: Tad tries to defend Daria from Sandi using a hairspray on her, claiming that those products were tested on animals, to which Quinn reacts horrified. Sandi then excuses herself saying it's ok to use them so the animals didn't die in vain.
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode, Quinn is looking for her teen magazine. Later, after Daria leaves to buy Jake's toilet paper, Jake mentions that he's reading said teen magazine.
  • Continuity Nod: Almost every character that ever had a speaking role in the show up to this point in the series makes at least a cameo.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: When Tom makes a snark comment about Lawndale High, Daria snarks back before realizing she just defended her own school. Daria and Tom agree never to speak of this conversation again.
  • Everyone Has Standards: It's telling that Quinn's horrified as soon as Tad mentions their make-up was tested on animals, while Sandi doesn't care.
  • Foreshadowing: Once again, Daria and Tom share a long look at each other as Tom is leaving with Jane. They would eventually develop feelings for each other.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: Tad Gupty gets into an argument with Sandi, calling her a mean old witch. Sandi just snaps back, "I am not old!"
  • Longing Look: As Daria is leaving covered in paint, and Jane is dragging Tom, he turns to give Daria a long look as she leaves.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Something We Forgot: By the end of the episode, we see that Jake is still stuck in the bathroom with no toilet paper (which Daria had lost anyway trying to get through the parade).
  • Token Minority Couple: Highlighted in this episode by Mack and Jodie being elected Homecoming King and Queen, something they're both aware is just an attempt by Lawndale High to hide the school's lack of diversity.
  • Too Much Information: Daria's response when Jake tells her there's no toilet paper in their other bathroom... because he was in there first and then went into this bathroom looking for it.
