The Land Down Under was never this dangerous.
Oceania is the sixth region investigated in Criminal Case: World Edition.
Encompassing the countries of Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, and an uncharted island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, Oceania focuses on the Bureau investigating SOMBRA's "The Next Level" program that they heard about in the finale of the previous region, steadily learning about the horrific implications that said project entails along the way. At the same time, it also deals with the Bureau trying to discover the true identity of X, an anonymous informant that seems to know a lot about SOMBRA and decides to guide the Bureau in their journey through the region.
Cases Set in Oceania
- Death Match: A famous boxer is strangled with his own headband on a ring in Thailand.
- A Stab in the Dark: A finance company CEO is stabbed to death on an observation wheel cabin in Singapore.
- The Sweet Escape: A runaway SOMBRA recruit is shot with a speargun on the beaches of Indonesia.
- Speak, Friend, and Die: A fantasy movie director is bludgeoned to death on a film set in New Zealand.
- Six Feet Down Under: A media mogul is shot to death outside of the Opera House in Sydney.
- Out of the Blue: A scientist is stabbed with a poison-filled syringe on an uncharted Indian Ocean island.
Tropes:
- Arc Villain: Professor Marshall Metcalf, a SOMBRA scientist in charge of "The Next Level" program whose sole purpose is creating brainwashed and genetically enhanced assassins for the organization.
- Artistic License – Geography: Despite being named "Oceania", the first half of the arc (Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia) actually takes place in Southeast Asia, while the finale is set on an uncharted island in the middle of the Indian Ocean instead. As such, only a third of Oceania (New Zealand and Australia) actually take place in the eponymous continent.
- Bio-Augmentation: Most of the region focuses on the Bureau discovering that SOMBRA's "The Next Level" entails this, granting their recruits that survived the Deadly Game back in Japan with either intelligence, speed, or strength.
- Breather Episode: Slightly Downplayed. While Oceania is somewhat Lighter and Softer in comparison to the extremely dark plot of East Asia, it's also not a walk in the park either, as it deals with other kind of horrors such as human experimentation and the training of Professional Killers for a dangerous criminal organization that, while not invoking as much fear as the child trafficking storyline of East Asia, are still quite worrisome.
- Murder, Inc.: What SOMBRA's goal for "The Next Level" program is revealed to be: to create a group of utterly loyal and brainwashed Professional Killers to work for them and assassinate whoever gets in their way.
- Mysterious Backer: Apart from the main plot, Oceania also focuses on X, a Mysterious Stranger providing useful information for the Bureau while keeping their true intentions for themselves until The Climax.
- Recurring Character: The main recurring characters for Oceania are Prof. Marshall Metcalf, Michelle Zuria, Baxter Fraser, Ruby Armstrong, and to a lesser extent Brice LeBeau and Asal Hawaa.
