"Good looks, gas station... some guys have all the luck."

A Plot: After their "moment" from the previous episode, Lacey thinks that she and Brent should just remain friends, but is surprised to find out he feels the same way. Surprise turns into confusion when she finds out that Brent is considered to be the best-looking man in the whole town.

B Plot: Karen starts grilling Davis for improper use of a firearm. In the end it's all just a ruse, and Davis proves he's learned nothing.

C Plot: Oscar takes money from Emma to buy an outboard motor off of Hank. When Emma finds out, she is none too happy.

Tropes Referenced:

  • Attractiveness Isolation: Everyone in town thinks Brent isn't seeing anyone because he's too attractive to find a good match. This confounds Lacey.
  • Best Out of Infinity: Emma plays pool with Hank to try to win back the money Oscar took from her to buy the motor. After Hank beats her over and over, he gets fed up and just hands her the money anyway.
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode, Davis uses his gun to chase away crows from Lumsden's Farm. Later, Oscar finds holes in his boat, which he blames Emma for since she was against him buying a new outboard motor.
  • By "No", I Mean "Yes": When Lacey tries to tell Wanda about her and Brent's almost-kiss:
Wanda: [shocked] Did you sleep with Brent?!
    Lacey: No!
Wanda: Did you and Brent make out?
    Lacey: Well... no.
Wanda: [getting frustrated] Well, what?! Did you see him take a pee or something?!
Lacey: No. Well, yeah, but that's not what I meant.
  • Height Angst: Wanda from the Cold Open.
Hank: My point is that nobody from our generation uses the metric system for height. We use kilometres, we use litres, we use grams, but the height thing never made the transition to the metric system from the old... whatever it's called... system.
Brent: Are we in an argument or not?
Hank: You ask anybody over the age of 30 how tall they are, they're gonna tell you in feet and inches. Huh? Watch. Hey, Wanda!
    Wanda: What?
Hank: What size is that milk you're puttin' out?
Wanda: Uh, some 2-litres and some half-litres...
Hank: [smirks] How tall are ya?
Wanda: [Beat, turns around] Yes, Hank, I'm short. Very funny. You're a regular Jay Lame-o. I'm still tall enough to kick your sorry ass! [angrily slams cooler door and storms off]
Brent: Now ask her if she's over 30.
  • Hollywood Board Games: Emma challenges Hank to a game of pool to recover the money Oscar, her husband, gave to him. Manchild Hank brags about being great at it and... he's right! He keeps winning round after round. However, Emma is a persistent, patient woman (explained by her old age), so she doesn't give up and manages to bore the much younger Hank with her constant "Best Out of Infinity" requests. As a result, he just hands her the money so he can go and do something else.
  • Imagine Spot: Emma says she was planning to buy a new electric mixer with the money Oscar stole to buy the outboard motor, prompting Brent to imagine them compromising by using the outboard motor as a mixer. Even in his head the idea is ludicrous.
  • Kavorka Man: To Lacey's confusion, every woman in Dog River lusts after Brent, who is considered to be so hot that he's unattainable. Lacey ends up theorizing that when stacked up against the average schlub in Dog River, "overweight, bald gas station owner" ends up looking like an Adonis in comparison. Wanda and Karen appear to agree with her, but as soon as she leaves...
Wanda: Was that as big a load as it sounded?
    Karen: Huge load.
Wanda: She's livin' in a dream world.
    Karen: Yeah. "Brent's not hot".
  • Let's Just Be Friends/Better as Friends: Lacey wants this with Brent, and is relieved but a bit surprised and insulted when he wants the same thing.
  • Pass the Popcorn: When Oscar and Emma are arguing at the gas station, Brent and Wanda watch with great interest while sharing a bag of popcorn.
  • Reckless Gun Usage: Davis apparently does this frequently. His plot with Karen kicks off because he fired three gunshots to scare crows away from some guy's farm. Later in the episode, he simply hands over his police-issued pistol to Hank just because Hank asked to borrow it.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: When Lacey wants to talk to Wanda and later Brent about something "sensitive", they both assume they have something stuck in their teeth.
  • Troll: Karen puts Davis through the wringer for his reckless firearm use, using ample amounts of Perp Sweating, only for her to reveal that the next step after the interrogation is to hand in a written report to her superior officer. Who is Davis. He rips it up, realizing that she was screwing with him the whole time.
  • With Due Respect: Karen, after finding out Davis shot his gun at crows:
Karen: Davis, I know you're my senior officer, so I say this with all due respect. How stupid are you?
