Shen Qingqiu is forced by the System to let Luo Binghe participate in the duel. However, Luo Binghe netting a solid victory might be more difficult than expected.

  • Anti-Climax: The entire fight, if it can even be called one, between Liu Mingyan and Sha Hualing is this, considering how they're not really exchanging blows as much as they are dancing, with the fight only ending as soon as Shen Qingqiu's (and the viewer's) attention is completely diverted.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: When Elder Sky Hammer poisons Shen Qingqiu, Luo Binghe's first response is to take his (broken) sword and jam it in the demon's chest while threatening him in a vicious tone, hinting at the ruthlessness he would soon exhibit in the original canon.
Luo Binghe: Give me the antidote, or I'll kill you first!
  • Chekhov's Gun: The real cultivation manual that Shen Qingqiu gave Luo Binghe in Episode 3 comes in handy in this episode. After getting his Heroic Second Wind, Luo Binghe remembers a talisman spell from the manual that proves to be an effective attack against Elder Sky Hammer.
  • Chiaroscuro: In Luo Binghe's memories of the original Shen Qingqiu, the latter is always shrouded in both shadow and the natural light from the moon to highlight his cold nature.
  • Flat "What": Shen Qingqiu reacts this way when the highly-anticipated duel between Liu Mingyan and Sha Hualing ends up being something more of a dance-off than an actual face-off.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Shen Qingqiu lambasts the author of Proud Immortal Demon Way for his overly literal sense of naming, such as calling the one-armed demon "Elder One-Arm", the demon wielding a large hammer "Elder Sky Hammer", and an incurable demonic poison "No Cure".
  • Green-Eyed Monster: When Liu Mingyan's beauty captures everyone's attention, even the demons', Sha Hualing quickly reprimands her underlings for looking and tells them to keep their eyes on her.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Luo Binghe initially has a hard time standing his ground against Elder Sky Hammer, but after a Rousing Speech from Shen Qingqiu, he gets back up and is able to fight more efficiently this time around.
  • Honor Before Reason: A selfless example; when Elder Sky Hammer attempts to make one last attack on Luo Binghe, Shen Qingqiu pushes him out of the way and takes the hit for him, but then belatedly realizes that he didn't have to do that since Luo Binghe has Plot Armor.
  • Kick the Dog: When Luo Binghe first introduced himself to Shen Qingqiu, he gets tea poured onto his head by his teacher, who apathetically remarks that he doesn't need to know his name.
  • Magic Missile Storm: Luo Binghe lands the decisive blow in his match with Elder Sky Hammer by sending a flurry of exorcism talismans at him.
  • Not So Above It All: While Ming Fan still dislikes Luo Binghe, he can't help but cheer with the rest of the crowd at the latter's victory against Elder Sky Hammer.
  • This Is T Reality: Shen Qingqiu notes that one's opinion of a fictional character can differ if said character exists in Real Life. In Shen Qingqiu's case, from a reader's POV Sha Hualing could be seen as a fun and intriguing character; but when personally interacting with her, Shen Qingqiu finds her to be an insufferable bitch.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: In the flashbacks where Luo Binghe is being abused by Shen Qingqiu, Shen Qingqiu never once raises his voice and always speaks in a cold and detached manner.
  • Sore Loser: Sha Hualing isn't all to happy about her clan losing the duel and lashes out but quickly composes herself when Shen Qingqiu tells her it's unbecoming.
  • Taking You with Me: After losing to Luo Binghe, Elder Sky Hammer attempts this on the boy, but Shen Qingqiu takes the hit instead. While he doesn't die, he gets inflicted with an incurable poison.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: While Luo Binghe gives an impassioned speech about how much Shen Qingqiu believed in him, everyone just stands and listens to him with awe, even his opponent, who could have taken the opportunity to interrupt him with an attack. Though considering Luo Binghe's Plot Armor as the In-Universe protagonist, this trope is likely justified.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: Liu Mingyan is introduced by the System as the most beautiful woman of the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, and true to her reputation as this trope, almost everyone (even the demons) can't help but admire her beauty. Even Shen Qingqiu is dazed by her glamour for a while.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Elder Sky Hammer's loss, Sha Hualing harshly berates her subordinate for his defeat, and her words of "I don't think I need to tell you what to do next," hints that death is the only thing waiting for him due to his failure.
